What do you think about when you are putting?

"Don't pull it. And don't push it. Don't leave it short. And don't blast it past. This'll be embarrassing if I miss. You're a moron - stop thinking and just hit it. What was the line again? I wasn't fitted for this putter, what if it doesn't fit my stroke? Oh balls, I've got no chance of making this now. Oh well, might as well get it over with..."

That's my usual putting thought process. I'm not a very good putter.

Pretty much ideal and what I like to instill in all of my clients

you really need to regognise this think 'STOP' you can have a red dot on the top of the putter grip to help remind you, then replace the negative thought with a positive one, then bury that positive thought deep and putt without thinking of anything.

Can be difficult at first but gets better with practice

Ha to right it is difficult. Worst thing is one bad putt can throw everything up the left. Really I should practice more and gain a little more confidence in my stroke etc to help combat the negatives. I've often have a little motivation interviewing type convo in my head to try and challenge myself to change the negative thinking but usually relapse quiet quickly ;)

I'm just thinking about how far I want to take the putter back. The line is already decided and the rest of the stroke takes care of itself.

Once I've gone through all the guff about the line, etc. when I actually make the stroke I say to myself "Push"....if I don't I'll guarantee it comes up well short of the hole... because I haven't made a definite push at the ball!
