What do you drop?

Easy decision. 60* Lob Wedge.

Can pretty well get the same results with 56* Sand Wedge.

Only carry 12 clubs at the moment anyway

I carry 5 wood, 3 hybrid, 4 iron and 4 hybrid. Probably lose the 3 hybrid. They all have their distinct uses though, e.g 4 hybrid is an old Adam’s one for use from rough or when need 190 without going OOB. 4 iron from tee, esp when need a hook round corner of the dog leg.

It's funny because I only have 11 clubs at the moment, my friends clubbed together (no pun intended) for me to buy a new club as a birthday present and I genuinely don't know what I would get as I can't see where I would want it that extra club!

If I had to drop one, it would probably be my 4 iron, purely because it wouldn't leave too big a gap at the top.

Only 11 clubs but you don't have any gaps? How? 😄

I have a 54° and then PW, I could have a gap wedge but I'm just as good with my PW at hitting 100 yards or 80vas well as a full shot which is 120ish, for instance.

I like my set up though and think anything else would complicate things.

This time of year, driver. 100%. It rarely comes out of the bag.

I’m fairly well served from the tee with driver, 3 and 5 woods and a 2 iron. When it’s baked hard as it is at the moment, even the par 5’s are in range in two without the need for driver.

In winter, I’d probably drop the 2 iron. When the ball isn’t running that club is pretty much redundant.

Is 54 your most lofted club? I reckon if you added a 58 or 60 lob wedge it would be a game changer for little chips and pitches around the greens, especially in summer.

It is my most lofted, yes. Again though, I'm really comfortable with opening the face a little and adding loft, I can play a very good lob shot with my 54°.

I used to do exactly the same with a 54 wedge.
Great when you get it right,a bit embarrassing when you thin it and then have to walk 130 yards back down the fairway with a 9 iron 😂

60 might be useful for emergencies though surely? Since you have the room anyway? Maybe with different bounce too?

You and I are clearly very different, I can't really do partial swings so I need more clubs down the short end than the long end. 😄 Best I can do is take 5 yards off a wedge by gripping down the bottom of the grip.

The most common mistake I see when people try and do a half swing is they don’t commit to the shot.
The backswing is fine but they then have a half hearted follow through instead of completing it like they would with a full shot (I’m the worst for doing this)

My problem trying to do three-quarter swings is that a) I have no idea where three quarters is in my backswing, I can only feel 'full' and 'half' and b) trying to swing from three-quarters throws my tempo and timing off and I usually chunk it. I can do half-swings for pitching, I just keep all my weight on the left side.

Have you tried coming right down the grip and just playing a smooth full swing?

As I mentioned above, that is about all I can do to take some yards off. Feet slightly closer together and grip down the bottom of the grip - takes about 5 yards off it.

A long club. Anyone playing at my mid-high handicap level who thinks they need a 180, 190 and 200 yard club is fantasising about their skills.
But I generally only carry 1 club between driver and 7-iron anyway, so I've already followed my suggestion.
I don't understand what you mean. My index is 16/17 and I have a couple of hybrids that go about 175 and 195. If I didn't have them, what would I hit on a long par three?

Next time you go to the range try coming right to the bottom of the grip so your almost on the steel and see how it goes. Mostly only useful with a short wedge shot of about 70 yards I find

I'm the same. Coping with one swing is hard enough. If I try to do a half- or three-quarter swing, I almost always b*llocks it up! I also grip down and just swing normally (well, 'normal' for me!).
