What do you drop?

I don't understand what you mean. My index is 16/17 and I have a couple of hybrids that go about 175 and 195. If I didn't have them, what would I hit on a long par three?
I said, "Anyone playing at my mid-high handicap level," but I guess that was a lazy generalisation based on myself and regular playing partners.
On a good day, my distances with the longer clubs would be:
3w 190-220
7w 180-210
3h 190-220
4h 170-210
...but the causes of the distance dispersion will be a mystery. I'm just saying that's 4 clubs that do pretty much the same thing in my hands without having a finely tuned distance. I rarely carry more than 1 of them at a time, but it has happened.

Since I usually play with only six clubs (D, 26* hy, 7i, pw, 56*, pu), finding one to lose is tricky.

I’d probably ditch the 7i and pw, and carry a 9i instead.
Not a criticism just out of interest why do you carry so few clubs? And do you ever find yourself wishing you had an extra/ different club?

I like a simpler game and enjoy the challenge of doing more with each club. And I’m a bit rubbish, so using more clubs doesn’t help all that much :ROFLMAO:
I think it’s great.👍
I used to often go out solo with just a half set to practice.
Then take my full bag out for a comp and get 25 points 😂

Yep. In winter, when trolleys are banned, I go down to as few clubs as I think I can get away with; usually driver, a long club, medium club, wedge and putter.
Apart from the crappy weather and having to carry, I think I actually enjoy the golf more without the mental clutter of choice but with the added challenge of thinking what shot to play.

I'd drop my 3 and 5 wood and stick in a 4 wood.

Can't belive how many would drop their lob wedge. That's my main chipping club. Ouch that would be a sore loss for me. 😞
I'm always impressed when I play with guys who use their lob wedge around the green but managed to get it to release out. If I use mine I've got to fly it all the way as it gets next to no release.

I use my 50 around the green and sometimes go down to a PW if it's longer than 20 yards. 54 and 58 are mainly out of bunkers or if I have to come over a bunker.

You do realise they are all looking at you wishing they could get it to stop dead as well 😄. Golfers, we are never happy 🤷‍♀️

60 might be useful for emergencies though surely? Since you have the room anyway? Maybe with different bounce too?

You and I are clearly very different, I can't really do partial swings so I need more clubs down the short end than the long end. 😄 Best I can do is take 5 yards off a wedge by gripping down the bottom of the grip.
The bounce suggestion isn't bad actually, my 54° is 12° I think, so either a gap or lob with lower bounce could be useful.

That’s what I have. 54 has more bounce and is better out of the rough. 58 is low bounce, great for nipping it off tight lies in the summer.
58 is so important for me in summer when the greens are firm. Mind you the greens at my home course are very quick. Maybe it’s a sign that I short side myself too much 🤔

Think I only carry 12 clubs anyhow (driver, 5 & 7 woods, 6-PW irons, 3 wedges (48, 52 & 58) and putter). In winter, I'll start carrying & bin the 58 (as I only really use it out of bunkers & the occasional chip shot), possibly the 48, possibly the 8 iron and likely deloft the 7 wood to a 5+ & drop the 5 wood - choices, choices

I only carry 10 clubs plus putter as is. Driver, 2,5,6,7,8,9,PW, 54 & 58. Often drop the 2 iron and 6 iron to lighten the bag, especially at home. Usually only put the 2 iron in if I’m playing links in the wind, any other time happy with the 5 for long second shots. The 6 iron can be easily bridged with the 5 & 7.

I only carry 8 clubs as it is. But am thinking about adding a gap wedge (50 degree) probably next season
