All fair - the only difference I typically notice is the sole and the better tread for grip. But if someone has got a pair of trainers they love, that are comfortable with decent grip, I don't think any pro shop would notice or care if they wore them to play in these days.It's very subtle, but the samba golf shoe has:
I have no problem with people wearing regular trainers for golf. Personally, I wear trainers to the range or to practise, but out on the course I've found shoes purposefully designed for golf provide me better grip when swinging, and keep my feet dry when walking in wet rough .
- A thicker midsole, there is more cushioning in there to make it fit for purpose for long walks
- More grip on the sole, the tread pattern has much deeper lugs
- Material on the upper looks a little different, I'm guessing this is to provide a higher level resistance to water (or it could just be a different style)
