Just received my email from HDID with results from yesterday's stableford comp.
I had 35 pts so knew I would be in buffers so staying the same but my jaw hit the floor with astonishment .
First I was 51st place with my 35 which was ok. but the top 3 was 3rd place 43 pts 2nd was 44 pts but the winner was. ................ 50 (fifty) pts.

I've never heard of anyone getting that high a score that's what -14 does that count as a very very very good round or what

You are exaggerating slightly. With a CSS of 69 against Par 71, he was only 12 shots better than handicap! Is he a new member who has suddenly appeared with a (possibly) dodgy handicap? Or has he just had the round of his life?

which club does Grumps play at?

every dog has their day, it is possible.

I myself had a good score earlier this year in our summer roll up comp. Shot gross 69 for 47 points.

went out in the medal next day and shot 96 gross:(

I did ONCE shoot 10 under my h/cap and don't expect to do it any time soon... I guess all you can do is check the guys previous scores.

Only time it would really get on my nerves would be if he was playing with his mates that he ALWAYS plays with..... not to suggest that anything 'untoward' may be happening........

It was said once upon a time that to play to your handicap you have to play well
So to beat your handicap if only by a few you would have to play very well
To beat your handicap by 3 or 4 shots, you would have to play incredibly well
I dont care if it was 12 or 14 under his handicap the guy has has played incredibly well and with a wrong handicap and that to me is cheating.

Little bit strong to say he was cheating Bob. My mate only really started playing back end of last summer and has had some really good rounds. His handicap was 25.3 at the end of March and it is now 17.2. He had just played a lot of golf and worked hard over winter, maybe this person has done the same. Imagine most high handicappers if they have a good round off the tee and did not loose a ball during a round, sunk a few long putts also, a lot of them would instantly be 7 or 8 shots better off.

Nah sorry, dont buy it.
It seems to be the norm now and accepted that someone can be that far under their handicap without cheating.

I agree, people do have good days but that would account for the 6 and 7 unders...not 12.
His handicap is at least 6 too high

I've shot 7 under my handicap (9 under CSS) on a parkland course and 8 under handicap 4 or 5 times on links courses in competitions when conditions were benign (once shooting 5 under handicap in the afternoon and only coming 2nd!). These were near par rounds and I'm a 'stable' handicap, so a high handicapper who has put in the work could well be capable of an extraordinary score. I've certainly seen a 22-capper click and shoot 48 points on a Par 71 SSS 72 course.

harsh, and of course we don't know everything.......

but, to add fuel to your fire and probably support your premise that the handicap is wrong (but not that he is cheating because HE can't do anything about it!)

was off 28 6 weeks ago, don't know if it was a new allocation or not.

4 competition scores I can trace -

-5
0
-2
-12

now, given that this is a Scottish club and they have opted out of the ESR trials, what can the poor guy do other than play as many competitions as possible to get his handicap down?

It may seem harsh but in match play, that would equate to roughly net par, birdie, birdie par, birdie, birdie, par, birdie, birdie, par, birdie, birdie, par, birdie, birdie, par, birdie, birdie.
How would you fancy your chances against that ?
Level playing field my a***

What's the most you ever played under your handicap Bob, or have beaten par by since turning pro?

I shot 41 pts off 5 just before turning pro and that included one bogey so I was very pleased with the rest of the round.
Since then, 4 under has ben my best score in comps so 40 pts
I very rarely got over 40 pts because I was cut on general play a lot.

i shot 46 off 19 before. parred 9 bogeyd 9. really good weather that day and i just played simple golf. putted really well.

poor fella that came 2nd shot gross -7 !

one better than the course record but doesnt stand as it was off the yellows.
