I haven't said anything yet about the new England manager herr Tuchel, my initial thoughts are that I don't think he will be any good for us .I get the feeling that if things don't click for him early doors we will see him leaving early doors as he will quit .
My choice for what is was worth was Potter.

From your post we can see exactly why you don’t think he will be any good and it isn’t based on anything to do with football

A bit harsh mate , but I don't trust the man to do a good job, I think he will fail big time , he's on a short contract so won't really get the time to make " his" team .

You sound surprised they were talking rubbish. Why bother listening 🤷‍♂️

Inbred? That's very pleasant of you 😲

Carragher and Neville spent ages talking about their views on the English national coach, going into a lot of detail as to why they'd prefer the manager to be English. If a foreign manager was to be chosen, in Neville's view the only manager he'd break his rule for would be Pep. For obvious reasons. Both were extremely respectful to Tuchel, and gave a long explanation as to why they feel the way they do.

Surely it is OK for some people to prefer an English coach, others to be happy with any nationality coach, and be able to express their views respectfully. Why would it require firing personal insults because you don't agree with what they said?

Carragher is a hypocrite, he came out of retirement to play for a foreign manager. I wonder what his excuse is for that?

Got to be expected when listening to talksport.
They say anything to be controversial.

He still came out of retirement to play for a foreign manager
I suppose it is all to do with how multiple aspects combine together to make a single decision.

On one hand, he would prefer an English manager. On the other hand, he is an England fan, and obviously had a desire to play for England at that time. If he chose not to play for England simply because they had a foreign manager, then no doubt people would slate him for being an English player and fan, refusing to play for his country simply because of the manager. Yet, if he chooses to represent his country, then others will slate him for playing under a foreign manager.

The odds are pretty high that there are a few English players now who would prefer an English coach if it was up to them (given that the feeling of this seem fairly split amongst the general population). But if any of those players refused to now play for England simply because they'd prefer an English coach, I don't think many people are going to be overly supportive of them? The decision who is coach is out of their hands at the end of the day.

He was happy to play for a foreign manager but now he doesnt want a foreign manager in charge. Thats hypocritical.
Surely its never black and white when it comes to being a player and just wanting to represent your country and as a fan what someone thinks

Carragher played under a foreign manager when he started playing for England

He was very clear that he thinks when it comes to international teams they should in his opinion have a home coach -and that’s the same for Italy , Germany etc

But when I think of England now, and we're so close to winning a major tournament, there's so much good work that has gone into producing these players at St George's Park, it just doesn't feel right to me that we have a foreign coach.

'Again, it's not just about England. I don't think Italy should, I don't think Germany should, I don't think France should. Portugal have it at the moment in Roberto Martinez which I find strange.

'That's my take on it. I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. England have got a brilliant manager, but I think England should have an English manager.'

The thing that I find tricky is national loyalty - patriotism - when it comes to sport. If England had faced Germany in the last world cup or euros finals and he was asked who he wanted to win...he sure as hell aint saying England.

What would he say if this happened now? What would he feel if this happened now?

When does the salary out-trump national loyalty?

Or am I just being naiive...

I think based on the number of players that play for countries that their gran once visited on holiday rather than where they were born and raised, you are being naive. It makes you feel better, I feel the same way. No way could I pull on a Welsh shirt, as an example, and sing Land of my Fathers when I'm English. Something happens when you become professional, it becomes a business ☹️ . Whether club or country........

My guess he would say he now wants England to win (assume you were talking about Tuchel)

He may well be a proud German who has supported Germany. But, professional pride, ego, etc will almost certainly trump that, and he'll desperately want England to win. I suppose he feels a connection to England through the Premier League, as he has managed Chelsea and perhaps been exposed to the PL and English support for quite some time. So, I'm assuming he has a warmth to England, just like I'd assume Pep, Klopp and a few other managers would have quite a deep connection to the English league and fans.

The alternative does not bear thinking about. Imagine he would still prefer Germany to win whilst managing / coaching England!?
