I think any loan deal would need an obligation to buy rather than an option for it to happen.
Agreed.
Where could he go tho?
On his wages only Chelsea,City,Liverpool & arsenal could possibly afford him.
And he doesn’t get in any of their starting 11.
So it’s PSG or Saudi?

The only logical fit in the Premier League would be Arsenal. Chelsea have got too many options already, he’s nowhere near good enough for either City or Liverpool. They simply don’t need him. Arsenal might just make use of him.

I can’t see him going to Saudi at 27, as he still harbours hopes of playing for England. Real Madrid don’t need him, Barcelona can’t afford him, and is he really good enough for either of those clubs or even PSG?

It’s a really tricky one because his performances in no way come remotely close to justifying the ludicrous salary. Nowhere near. He’s a mid table level performer commanding superstar wages, so something has to give.

Has Marcus Rashford’s boat sailed? Is he almost past it in terms of regaining his best level? He 27yrs, 2 months old. If he gets his move he’s got a bedding in period and then he’ll be almost 28 before the start of next season.

No doubt he’s, potentially, a decent buy for a mid-table club assuming he ups his performances but is he now getting close to past it at the top level? Potentially, 3-4 good seasons but my gut feel is he’s going to be yesterday’s news in terms of being a star performer.

Still plenty life left in him

Whilst he hasn’t helped himself at times can’t also ignore the state of the club - there are very little amount of players that can hold their heads up over the last ten years

Still think PSG will come in for him but most will want a cut price deal

I’ve always rated him myself.

Mid-table club though….could anyone afford him? I’m given to understand he’s on crazy wages that most, if not all, of the teams outside the “top few” would be unable to afford.

Unless he takes a significant wage cut? Would he be prepared to do that?

I agree in part, Phil, but where Rashford has truly let himself down is attitude and application.

United have had some awful players during the last decade. Everyone agrees recruitment has been dreadful. But most football fans, Old Trafford regulars included, whilst forgiving a player who clearly isn’t good enough, will never accept a lack of effort and poor attitude.

The player I would use to illustrate the point is Wout Weghorst. Absolutely no way is he good enough to play at the top level in the Premier League, but United fans took to him because he left nothing out on the pitch. He loved pulling on the shirt, and absolutely worked his socks off.

In contrast, Rashford has all but given up. His work rate has never been particularly high. He doesn’t track back. When seeking a foul he’ll go to ground and stay there long after the opposition are on the attack. For at least two years he has played with a scowl on his face as though the world owes him a debt of gratitude just for turning up, and I am sure I am not alone in saying that is nowhere near good enough.

To waste a god given talent, because the lad has talent, is bad enough. To be trousering over £300k a week whilst doing that is unforgivable. And United fans have had enough.

As Talksport normally do they go into discussions about best ever …

After Salahs performance yesterday the obvious talk was about the best ever to play in the Prem

For me it’s always been Henry - he was the sort of player even oppo fans would pay to watch - goals , assist , all round creativity, he used to glide along the ground

Stats wise Mo is getting very close - think the combined goals and assists he has just snuck ahead of him

But will Mo get above him if he continues in this way

Most still see Gerrard as our best ever prem player because of his all round game and goals plus he played in a period where he wasn’t surrounded by pure quality

So what do you see as the top 5 or 10 ?

For me

Henry
Shearer
Gerrard
Mo
Rooney
Ronaldo
KDB
Giggs
Keane
Scholes

I think Frank Lampard with his stats fits in there as well

David's brother is a Derby fan (done to wind him and his Dad up!). Anyway. We went with him to watch Derby v Arsenal. The only reason I went was to watch Henry in the flesh. I'd liken him to Roger Federer...just a dreamy athlete to watch in motion, effortless, class.

Rashford. He infuriates me. But, when you look at the bigger picture, can you really blame him? Possibly not. 100% of the blame could potentially be attributed at the Club, for making him the player he is. Look at what has happened to most or all other young players who have come through in last decade. Just seen Brandon Williams had been without a club for 6 months, he looked promising when he started. Now can't even get a club?

Class of 92 broke into a squad with Schmeichel, Bruce, Pallister, Irwin, Keane, Cantona, etc. Even if you forget the manager, they had no choice giving 100% alongside those players. And, so long as they did, they'd earn the support from their peers, which would be hugely uplifting.

When Rashford started, he was the young hope amongst a dire squad of players. He could avoid the scrutiny, as that was aimed at players like Pogba, Lukaku, Martial, etc. Instead, he could put in mediocre effort, and still earn the few positive comments related to Utd. He was the hope.

He has now woken up one day, and is in his mid 20's. Half his career gone. Many players like Pogba have left club. Younger players are now the new hope, and recent signings get some time unless they cost mega money. Rashford has grown up where mediocre effort has not been an issue for him, but now the fingers are pointing at him, as Utd are still garbage. His lack of effort is now a massive problem as he is no longer one for the future, but needs to be a key player now. And, I think it is largely impossible for him to change his attitude, which is now inbuilt.

If Utd were to proceed as they have, I'm pretty certain Mainoo will get the criticism. Garnacho already is, as fans become more and more impatient.

Utd have been too busy buying fancy technical players, thinking we'd just start playing like prime Barcelona. The strategy had to change. I think they need to buy several absolute work horses. Not saying this player is the right one or that he'd want to move, just using him as an example...John McGinn. If you brought in several players like that, not on astronomical wages, but pretty certain they would never stop running AND have a strong determined personality, then that is the attitude you want young 17 year old players to learn from, or the odd fancy signing. You probably need a good number of hard competitors to really influence the entire team, and then you can try and slowly add a scattering of high talent young players who will be pushed along by the high energy players around them, until it becomes ingrained.

I think a good number of Utds players have ability, and would have looked excellent if they signed or broke through into the City team last few years or Liverpool. Whereas I think if most of Liverpool's players had been dropped into Utd's squad, they'd struggle.

How long does it take to change the culture at Utd? I guess as long as it takes to embed as many leaders into the squad while discarding the broken players who will now never reach that level. Amorim, hopefully, can save the career of some of those players who may be going in reverse right now, but many must be beyond saving.

The pressure will mostly be on INEOS next 2/3 years, to see how well they can do in rebuilding the squad.

Ohhh, and I think when giving new signings their medicals, the Club need to be more ruthless. It almost feels like I could pass a medical at Utd, at the age of 44 with dodgy knees.

Medicals are very difficult to fail. They are just for insurance companies really. If something is flagged up it puts up the premium / gets excluded on their policy
