I liked Simon Doull’s take on Brook. He can’t get a place over a man that can’t get into his hundred team, and another that can’t knock the skin off a rice pudding. Think he might mean Malan and Roy.;)

Why, Roy has been dreadful, he needs to go for Brooks
Roy is an opener, Brook is not - you need Roy (or Vince). Other option would be to take 2 of Brook, Moeen or Livingstone. Moeen and Livingstone are both competent limited overs bowlers. If you're generous Brook is a passable bowler. I also know if you look at Brooks strike rate he is poor vs spin which in not great in India. (he was however excellent in the PSL)

Think Malan, Root, or Stokes could easily open in 50 overs. Openers will be facing best opening bowlers in the world, so a decent technique might be helpful.:)

An interesting point mentioned on The Hundred finals day, Nat Sciver-Brunt is the second highest paid female sport star in the UK, behind Emma Radacanu - shows how far Women’s cricket has gone recently and is a suddenly a possible career choice for girls.
This might recruit athletes who otherwise might be attracted usually to other sports. Obviously this is a lot down to ‘franchise‘ cricket around the world but a sea change for the women’s game which is evolving and improving rapidly.

Anyone else think Brook would be a better opener in T20 and odi than will Jack's and Jason Roy ?

Jason Roy, yes. I think there is enough evidence to now support that his ‘slump’ is a decline. And that is from a big Roy fan.

Will Jacks is a stud though. He is also chronically underused as a bowler as turns it miles and is ridiculous in the field

Brook should be in ahead of pretty much anyone though!

I think England are falling into a trap of not moving on from previous success quickly enough and will get found out.

For me, Malan uses up too many deliveries to get himself in nowadays. With the lineup we have it should be boom or bust from the outset, especially Top3

Roy unfortunately lost form after being put into red ball and just doesn’t seem to have recovered it for any extended period

Jacks seems a decent player , surprised either Banton or Smeed not called up

Brook in all day long in all formats - the cleanest natural ball striker we have

wouldn’t have Malan in T20 but a good 3 in ODI if one of the top two go early

Livingstone is another imo who is living of his reputation at the moment, he needs to start producing more consistently

Agree on Livingstone. One swallow does not make a summer and all that. Although again he is handy with the ball and good in the field which helps though.

Agree on Malan. Just think with the depth we have he should be the one to move aside for Brook.

Smeed just too inconsistent with the depth we have

Banton - bad 24 months just after he broke through haven’t helped. Hopefully this summer is his return to norm as other than Brook nobody hits a ball cleaner

Personally a huge Will Jacks fan.(He's also my young son's favourite player

Is that Flintoff out on the pitch helping with the warm-up? Great to see him back out in the world, if it is.

There’s a couple of photos knocking about from the last couple of days of him. He was invited back by the England management to get involved with a bit of coaching. I think it’s his first public appearance since his Top Gear accident.

Yes he was around at the last match too. He still looks very beaten up 9 months after the crash so heaven alone knows how badly injured he was. He's a very brave man BUT sometimes needs saving from his own enthusiasm (and possibly sense of invincibility). Have to think the producers of Top Gear were not doing that.

The video of it is horrific. Front right tire blew out. Looking at his face he’s had some major reconstructive surgery - jaw bone & cheek bone.

I hadn't seen that. He does look a bit disfigured for sure so thought there must have been major surgery and then probably grafts/plastics.

Psychologically he must have been through the wringer. Poor guy. He had already expressed frailties when it came to his appearance (bulimic I think). It's good to see him back in the public eye.
