The all things EV chat thread

Of course EVs cost too much money but so do all brand new cars. Brand new ford focus from 28k ... 28 k??? Average UK salary is 33k .. so almost a year's wages for a car.

All cars are overpriced

What are you wittering on about now?

Car prices in the UK have been somewhat indexed around average salaries for 50+ years.

A Ford Cortina in 1972 started from £963 up to £1,210 - year's average salary was £1,394 = 69% to 94% of average salary
A Ford Focus in 2023 started from £28,490 up to £33,370 - a year's average salary was £34,963 = 81% to 95% of average salary.

No. Currently we're both changing our cars and electric hasn't even been contemplated. Reading the last few pages of this would have put me off if it were a consideration.

Maybe next time. Maybe if we're forced to, but definitely a no from us.

Going back maybe but wages have frozen in the main over the past decade yet prices have increased.

An electric car would be ideal for us as we do less than 10k a year.

My commute is roughly 12 miles a day.

However, we never have and never will buy a new car. For me a car is a lump of metal that gets us from A to B.

We don't have solar panels.

Would have to factor in cost of the charger as we own and don't rent so no grants.

Our cars are 7 years old and 19 years old. MOT'd and serviced every year and that costs us next to nothing.

May look at it in more detail when the old Fiesta packs in but for now it just doesn't make financial sense to us.

In answer to original question.....

If it looks anything the Lotus Electric SUV that pulled into the club car park as we were leaving today....in bright, eye- melting yellow..
Damn...No.No....just no, never, ever..Jesus H Christ my eyes are swollen......

I agree, designed with crayons.
As my old dad used to say, ''if I couldn't do a better job than that, I'd shoot myself''
He was talking about Bohemian Rhapsody at the time so he didn't know everything.

Fancy a Teslarossa?
The silent Ferrari

that should be outlwaed and the guy locked up for crimes against cars!

No it shouldn't.
It's his car, his money, his choice.
Cause he do what he wants but doesn't stop him being a proper throbber for taking an all time classic piece of auto history and ruining it by turning it into a milk float that is worth a fraction of the original! Bit like taking a listed Georgian building and pebble dashing it and adding UPVC windows!

Because we should all just keep doing the same things, never trying to change or innovate.

A Ford Focus in 2014 started from £13,995 up to £21,795 - a year's average salary was £27,011 = 51% to 80% of average salary.

It’s almost like Ford price their cars with average income in mind. Funny that.

A milk float that does 0-60 almost 2 seconds faster than the petrol and with a 50-50 weight distribution so improved handling.
So a bit like taking a listed Georgian building and installing bathrooms, heating and electricity

who gives a chuff about 0 to 60 in something with no excitement. Electric cars are boring to petrol heads. It would be 10,000% more gratifying foing 0 to 60 an 10 seconds in an old alfa than 2 seconds in a tesla. Petrol engines = character. Electric motors = functionality. And your analagy does not stacck up - those things do not take away from the character of the buidling but enhance it
