So left work 200 mile range 80%

We went home via the M25 as my mates is quicker that way (35 miles vs 25 mile drive, but I wanted to test the highway assist again) got home 67% and 165 miles left on it

Plenty to do my weekend and back to work Monday

tomorrow … have a drive to Birmingham… about 100 odd miles one way. So … simple choice.. good old ICE car.

Can’t take my EV (range about 210 miles) .. any minor detour means I am out of range ..

I'm beginning to think that EV owners/enthusiasts are the new non meat eaters in our society.

You get the ones who are vegetarians and are quite reasonable. They go out to a restaurant explain to the waiter that they don't eat meat and politely enquire as to whether there are any vegetarian options available. They ask the maitre d' for directions to the nearest EV charging point.

Then you get the vegans. They're a bit more passionate about their meat free lifestyle and aren't afraid to let you know about it. They complain about the limited vegan options on the menu and that the restaurant car park doesn't have an EV charging point.

Finally there are the extremist vegans, probably with green/blue hair and pronouns, who refuse to wear anything made of leather, will berate anyone that isn't a vegan and believe that everyone else should change to suit their lifestyle choices. They're the ones pouring milk on the floor in Waitrose, demanding that we "Just stop oil" and that all establishments have EV charging points fitted. These are the ones that will tell you within 5 minutes of meeting them that they are vegan/own on EV even though you didn't ask and don't care.

It's probably best if you make your own minds up about where the EV enthusiasts on the forum fit within those categories. ;)

Little known fact - ICE cars operated at peak efficiency and without breakdowns or any other adverse incidents from the moment of their conception.

But they can be fixed normally quite quickly.
My son’s EV was off the road for 4 months because there were no spare parts.
It was three months old that’s not good.
So it had been in the garage longer than it was on the road!
They gave him an ICE hire car??🚗

It's not just EV tho

Ice car off the road due to part missing, insurance company wrote it off as couldn't get the part in good time. Hire car was adding to their bill so they wrote it off! All for led running light

Person buys car off insurance, second hand led light off eBay , fixed

Like my awful Corsa. 2 months off the road for an abs wiring loom, nothing to do with EV side, their were petrol ones with the same issue

However on that point there are a lot less techs to fix so on average they take longer to fix

And don’t forget, they never run out of fuel!

For me, Im not sure if all EV owners agree. EVs aren't perfect but in the same breath they aren't nearly as difficult or a hassle as people think.

Great for second cars and used prices are really good ATM so more people can afford.

However a guy I work with has NEVER bought a new car. Always second hand. I was like look at the prices they reasonable .. oh but it's second hand the battery .. so he would never buy a ice car brand new... But is put off of EV prices brand new .. litterally never going to solve that because nothings ever going to be that cheap 🤣

How about the EV enthusiasts who don't care what you buy/drive?
And how about the ICE enthusiasts who come on here spreading misinformation and try and make out EV drivers are the lowest of the low and stupid to have fallen for ''the scam''?

At first, I tried to help doubters by giving up to date info about costs, charging, infrastructure etc but still I get told the range isn't good enough, not enough chargers, too expansive etc.
As I've said all along buy what you want, I don't care.

By the way, I love meat so I guess I fall into the ''quite reasonable'' category.

Same. My colleague (who I mentioned previously) says he always sees EV on charge so from the outside it seems they don't go far enough. We have 8 people with EVs , all have told him one by one the same. Always be charging. Yet he stills asks why are EVs always on charge .. it's like he won't accept what actual users of the tech are finding.

They don't go far enough .. well you can get over 200 miles now

They are too expensive.. second hand mg5 250 range £15k auto trader (5 year warranty) oh but that means in 5 years the battery will break.. ok then so a bog standard car has a 3 year warranty.. does that mean right in 4 years the engine is going to fall out. Ofc it doesn't.

Batteries are expensive to replace .. so is an engine if you go direct to the main dealer brand new. However you can go second hand and save money.

Of course EVs cost too much money but so do all brand new cars. Brand new ford focus from 28k ... 28 k??? Average UK salary is 33k .. so almost a year's wages for a car.

All cars are overpriced
