such a great response and nothing to do with any logic or vision. You want an electric car buy one - they are new but don't vandalise automotive history
I think Bob’s reply shows just how closed off to accepting something you’ve made a snap decision on you are.

Cause he do what he wants but doesn't stop him being a proper throbber for taking an all time classic piece of auto history and ruining it by turning it into a milk float that is worth a fraction of the original! Bit like taking a listed Georgian building and pebble dashing it and adding UPVC windows!
What makes it part of automotive history? It’s just a Testerossa. It wasn’t ground breaking and isn’t that attractive.

who gives a chuff about 0 to 60 in something with no excitement. Electric cars are boring to petrol heads. It would be 10,000% more gratifying foing 0 to 60 an 10 seconds in an old alfa than 2 seconds in a tesla. Petrol engines = character. Electric motors = functionality. And your analagy does not stacck up - those things do not take away from the character of the buidling but enhance it
Not sure you’ve ever driven an EV. Put your foot down in one set up for acceleration and you’ll soon see.

I beg to differ - it was a classic then and now - maybe not the epitimy of Ferrari but that is a very high bar to climb but a classic nonetheless

tomorrow … have a drive to Birmingham… about 100 odd miles one way. So … simple choice.. good old ICE car.

Can’t take my EV (range about 210 miles) .. any minor detour means I am out of range ..
Ah. I get it now. When one decides to commit to EV, whatever you do don't trade in you ICE - you might need it for that occasional journey. ;)

What’s a more iconic car from the 80’s in your eyes? Genuinely curious because I can only think of one. Show me yours I’ll show you mine :D

The Testarossa doesn’t get a look in next to these 3.

Cheers, all stunners. First thing that comes to my mind as an 80’s icon is the DeLorean Time Machine!

Of course it’s not the car I’d choose to drive if I could. That would have to be a Testarossa. The F40 never grabbed me the same way, I have never liked the rear end and wing, even though in every way it’s a better car it’s not as visually pleasing to me.

Indeed it is very boring, although lots of questions in the car park after the round with people asking all about it. They did like the party piece of driving it with the key.

It's not meant to be exciting, it's got so many added safety features to help keep my family safe on the roads. That's worth it for me

Give me boring anyday. A-b in pure comfort. Heated electric seats in front and heated in back. Ventilated front seats .. heated steering wheel. Highway change lane assist. Adaptive cruise control.

So good to just set to 50mph on the a406 and just relax.

Roads are far too busy for fun.

What exciting automotive exotica are you driving?
I sit somewhat in the middle of this debate.
Neither of my cars are exotic but one of them is certainly exciting. The thinking that excitement comes solely from acceleration is a bit odd, but each to their own I guess.

I have a heavily modified car that I am lucky enough to take to the track often (it is road legal) and its a hugely exciting drive.

My mate has a Model S and in insane mode he strips even the M340 pushing 530WHP off the line but its not long term sustainable (I usually catch him by bend 2) and, in my opinion the car is a bit sterile, in terms of driving experience and the cabin itself. But thats personal.

He drove the 340 and was visibly shaking with adrenalin afterwards.

This is not just EVs but even some ICE cars are being engineered to the point where systems are so precise that the handle so well they become boring.

I like being able to switch off the traction and let the car get a bit jittery. But the Tesla just doesn’t do it.

I am trading my daily daily driver in for an EV, its currently a big comfortable cruiser but still has 400BHP at my foot if needed.

But I see EVs as an inevitability, not by the common users hand, but by those making decisions believing that it is the “cleanest” way ahead, regardless of whether that is true or not is largely irrelevant, its what is believed until such time as a new tech comes along to displace it. And then the EV vs “A N New Technology” will be just like this.

And on that inevitability I’d rather get on board reasonably early to adapt to the required changes. But I will continue to prefer the excitement of current tech until new stuff comes along that, at least, matches it.

But what’s excitement to one man is either sterility or too extreme to others.

I agree with so much of this. Infact there isn't much to disagree with!!

I agree some EVs they are going so minimalist, one key for me was the niro had physical buttons
