It is worrying but not proven to just catch fire. It's mostly a cause but then the battery goes up

This story is just as worrying. A known fault with BMW's yet the police still haven't taken the cars off the road

"Unknown to him, the engine in his BMW 330d was liable to shatter and burst into flames."

"Now the BBC can reveal 32 of England's 39 police forces are still using cars with the same engine. Only four forces would say how many though, with them admitting 63 vehicles were still in service.

Given most forces would not say how many they had, the true number on the road is likely to be much higher."
So much for looking after the safety of your employees.

Yep, it is media outlets that have essentially guessed that as there are EV's on board then it's definitely one of those despite the fact there are another 2,832 other vehicles which may have also been to blame.

The official line from the Dutch Coastguard who are handling the entire thing is.....

"Several parties, including salvage companies and Rijkswaterstaat, are working on a plan of action. The coastguard helicopter has brought specialists from a salvage company to the Guardian to assess the situation at the scene. The situation is stable at the moment. The cause of the fire is still unknown."

I'm not saying that it wasn't an EV that caused the fire, maybe it will come out in time that it was however at this point any outlet reporting it as such is simply pushing their own agenda.
Must be virtually impossible to say what happened given the heat that must generate.

but a fire at sea is a nightmare.

Yeah that is such a worrying story, if you know of an issue that bad just wow

I know they don't get deals on BMWs anymore. A colleague is married to a copper and they used to get amazing lease deals but obviously that deal is over

Watch from 5:33 to 7:05 ....................................... or watch the whole video, it's very entertaining.
Well that's not bad then .... So you can drive from Wales to Scotland and play 3 rounds of golf in 1 day even in an electric car

Going away for a long (ish) trip tomorrow. Have found in brighton there are lots of chargers on the blink network so app set up ready as a back up

First choice is the shopping centre next to the hotel as that's on "the electricverse" (Octopus own it and it's linked to my account so charging comes straight out my octopus energy account)

I've noticed if your cars compatible (mines not) they are signing you up for plug and charge.. IE no apps, no cards just plug in and it will charge and it's links your cars computer to the account and charges you accordingly

Very pleasantly surprised with my drive to Brighton

Had a charge app downloaded that they use in Brighton, and also right next to our hotel is a charger that's linked to the octopus network. Just tap your card for discounted charging, charged from your account

Left home with 96% , 70 miles normal driving , plan was if under 50% charge using the octopus charger in the car park 5 mins from the hotel (£28 to park for 24 hours) instead we got there 64% battery so will cover the drive home and hotel parking is £25 so win win

Definitely wouldn’t buy an electric bus. Not watched the vid but have read the article. Parisian bus company grounded its fleet of electric buses. Think the article said they’ve had more than one bus go bang (4?), might be 2…

Just seen an EV has allegedly set fire to a cargo ship out of Holland.
Has over £300 million worth of cars on it ,not all EV.
Bentleys ,porche, Mercs.. VW.
Killed one crew member and lots hurt.

worst thing is it’s not the first time it’s happened.
Cant be the charger on a ship, do these things just spontaneously combust.
Fireman friend of mine says they are a nightmare to put out.
Thats very worrying.
Just as well it wasn't an oil tanker ship carrying millions of gallons of oil

I think this ship will do as much damage.
there’s a reason you can’t put batteries in landfill.
They will poison the sea but just in a different way.
I read the original estimate on numbers of cars was wrong. Almost 500 ev's and 3000 other cars.
They were hoping to tow it into salvage docks, even though it was still burning but temperatures within the hold had dropped.
Perhaps ev's should be called Indesit....their dryers were known for combusting

Yes saw a news bulletin that carriers are starting to refuse to carry EVs.

Friend of mine lives in a block of flats with underground parking in Bristol, the management company wanted to install charging points but eventually didn’t do it as they couldn’t get insurance due to the fire risk. They don’t have outside parking so cannot have home charging.

Some positive side of ev for balance

Did a 140 round trip to Brighton at the weekend , normal motorway speed

96% left arrived at Brighton 64%
Arrived home 23% (more uphill I'd say)

But still.. charged overnight to 83% more than enough for work today £2.55 cost ...

Then charged to full at work will get home and have about 89%

Delighted with that
