Thanks for that I appreciate it 👍
One thing is for certain, my company won’t pay for the installation of a charger, they made that quite clear at a meeting last year and then said we’d have to pay to top up the battery ourselves hence the two lads don’t plug the car in at home.
Do you know the rate for paying private miles in an EV? We currently pay around 12p per mile for private use although that fluctuates slightly depending on the price at the pump.
Sorry, I can't say I know. I don't do a pence per mile reimbursement.
Before I got the charger installed I actually used a smart plug with energy monitoring which was plugged into a socket in the garage and was used exclusively for charging the car. At the end of every month I would send off the screen print from the app to show how much electricity I used for charging my car, and the company would reimburse me for that amount. I did this as I know we would be moving house and didn't want to get a free charger at the old house, then have to pay for a new one at the new house.
This is the one I used.

And this is an example of the screen print

So a cement company say more roads should be made from cement. Brilliant, not biased at all.

It's a shame they forgot to mention that there are 5.5 million more cars on the roads today than 20 years ago. Not to mention trucks, lorries and oil tankers.
HGV VED is largely governed by weight

I've just done 300 miles in 7 hours, including two stops for a coffee and to let my dog have a stretch, through much heavy rain and several traffic jams.
My car's tank is still half full of diesel and it managed 65mpg.
I'm not sure I'd have managed that in an EV.
I'm also not sure how many EV chargers there are in Barnoldswick, either.

Zap Map tells me that there are 2 BP Pulse chargers in the town square car park, and there are rapid chargers a few miles away in Nelson or Barrowford

You're welcome

What car is that? 65mpg is pretty tasty.

It's a Kia Cee'd EcoDynamics 1.6 Diesel that's been remapped from 89bhp to 137bhp.
And the 65mpg was with two people, a dog with crate and all our associated luggage.
Also, going from the South to the North is all uphill. ;)

2 shared between a complete town?
Let's hope they are both working and no more than two people turn up to use them.
There are also two fuel stations, probably with several diesel pumps each and a wait time of up to three minutes.
EV .......................... no thanks, I'll stick with diesel.

Yet on the flip side if it suits you then get one if it doesn't nobody is forcing you .. plenty of second hand ice cars will be around for years to come. Well into 2050 no doubt.

My car had 83% battery today.. lovely sunny day I plugged it in to the 3 pin socket so it could slow charge ...

Walked the kids to the dentist.

Their nan then took the twins

By 12:30 the car was full (all free from excess solar, house battery was full aswell)

I then used said car to pick up the twins from their nans using the power of the sun 🌞

I will leave at 0530 tomorrow to a car that's pre heated to 21 degree and take a comfortable drive to work

Whatever works

There not for everyone but for those they suit they save big money.

I used to pay £200pcm fuel and £150 a year tax

I now (at most but often charge off solar or at work) pay £40 pcm fuel and £0 tax

Savings over the 4 years £8280

I'll be then buying a second hand Kia niro EV and running it until it dies.

Once the kids are out of car seats I'll look to ditch the big car in favour of a second EV

Heard an advert on the radio this morning for an electric Nissan proudly proclaiming 180 mile range and 80% rechargeable in 40 minutes.

Then the disclaimer about how actual performance might differ.

Sorry, that's not doing it for me!🤔
Which is no different to MPG claims.

Just seen an EV has allegedly set fire to a cargo ship out of Holland.
Has over £300 million worth of cars on it ,not all EV.
Bentleys ,porche, Mercs.. VW.
Killed one crew member and lots hurt.

worst thing is it’s not the first time it’s happened.
Cant be the charger on a ship, do these things just spontaneously combust.
Fireman friend of mine says they are a nightmare to put out.
Thats very worrying.

It is worrying but not proven to just catch fire. It's mostly a cause but then the battery goes up

This story is just as worrying. A known fault with BMW's yet the police still haven't taken the cars off the road

"Unknown to him, the engine in his BMW 330d was liable to shatter and burst into flames."

"Now the BBC can reveal 32 of England's 39 police forces are still using cars with the same engine. Only four forces would say how many though, with them admitting 63 vehicles were still in service.

Given most forces would not say how many they had, the true number on the road is likely to be much higher."

From what I've read they have no idea what the cause is. The quote from the Dutch Coast Guard is.....

"It’s carrying cars, 2,857, of which 25 are electrical cars, which made the fire even more difficult. It’s not easy to keep that kind of fire under control and even in such a vessel it’s not easy."

The ship is full of vehicles all with at least partially full petrols tanks so whether it's an EV battery or an ICE cars petrol tank there is a load of available fuel. As yet there has been no blame apportioned as to what started the fire whether that be a petrol motor, EV battery or an issue with the ship itself. Essentially the cause of the fire is as yet, unknown however the media love to jump on the 'It's the EV's fault' bandwagon.

Noticed a massive increase in anti EV articles from the press it's almost like they have shares in oil companies

My fav is "I bought an EV I drive 1000 miles a day it's the worst decision I made"

Well done on your poor research

Yep, it is media outlets that have essentially guessed that as there are EV's on board then it's definitely one of those despite the fact there are another 2,832 other vehicles which may have also been to blame.

The official line from the Dutch Coastguard who are handling the entire thing is.....

"Several parties, including salvage companies and Rijkswaterstaat, are working on a plan of action. The coastguard helicopter has brought specialists from a salvage company to the Guardian to assess the situation at the scene. The situation is stable at the moment. The cause of the fire is still unknown."

I'm not saying that it wasn't an EV that caused the fire, maybe it will come out in time that it was however at this point any outlet reporting it as such is simply pushing their own agenda.

This one I’d have, if given it for free. Apparently 1,000 km on one charge
