Not rubbish - I really did read it!

However, the main point, more people will read an article in the 'popular' media on the internet than dig in to a specialist site on the subject. This will form their views and lead to the anxiety that they won't be able to charge their car when they need to. Also, the vast majority of people who are looking to buy EVs now will be able able to charge at home, but what about the huge number of people in flats, with no drives, etc who can't charge at home and therefore would rely on public chargers?

And that is the massive crux of the issue

At one end petrol cars are being phased out so to speak but rather than support the move to EV the media are giving air to complete non stories and twisting them to slow down the move

Couple of examples

The "queues" for chargers pre Xmas.. all Tesla. All unable to use the fast chargers because the owners hadn't paid for an adapter... So had to queue for a slow charger .. real story "£80 adaptor failure"

The rac is leading with the cost of public charging equalling the cost of petrol etc ...real story is charging away from home is expensive but home isn't..more charging is done at home it averages out. If I do 400 mile trip and 150 miles was at home charge and 250 miles at public charge I'm still cheaper than petrol

Now this tosh combined with the tosh combined with fears of grid not coping which has been covered time and time again to prove plans are in place and smarter people than the editor of the sun and mail are on this

Its just frustrating

Right on que another non story about tesla only being available to telsa

Ignoring https://www.electrifying.com/blog/a...-uk-supercharger-network-to-non-tesla-drivers

The stories that really matter .. opening of 15 locations on a pilot with more to follow.

Also factor in those who have chargers at home but then visit people without them and so need public chargers still. This would be me. I could get a home charger, work could fit one, but the three big journeys I do fairly regularly all take me to locations / people where there is no charger at the other end. I'd need to charge mid route and then at the end, but not actually where I want to be at the end. I'm sure that is an issue for many others as well.

There are 30 EVs to every charging location.
Each location has 3 chargers so 10 cars per charger

If the vast majority don't need public chargers on a regular basis (charge at home), the minority won't need 300,000 more chargers.

I understand that as of today with charging speeds and lack of working chargers, EVs are not for everyone.
If they don't suit your life style, don't buy one.

As Paul pointed out, 15 locations which is 158 super chargers

Fair enough, more than I thought although I know that not all of those super chargers are compatible with other EV's even the newer ones. For example, my Ioniq won't charge on the v3 chargers, that's the same as the KIA's. Hoping it is an issue that will be sorted out however I don't know how easy that is.

Would I buy an electric car?
Yes, yesterday.
2018 Nissan Leaf Tekna, White.
3 hours driving home in a new (to me) car in the dark and freezing fog on a busy M62/A1
Don't want to do that again.

Presumably a 3 hour journey means you had to stop to recharge at some point.
Please share your experience of how that went.

A search showed chargers at Asda just off the M62 near Huddersfield so went there.
It was a bit of a faff getting the app, signing up/logging in but it was my first time so wont have to do that again. Just tap and go next time.
I used the fast charger as I just wanted to get home but it delivered about 80 miles of range while I got my shopping. Just as well it wasn't raining as the chargers were about 180 yards from the shop.:(
In the future I will mainly use Tesco which is in town so will use that once every 2-3 weeks. I don't go out much.
So all in all, a good learning experience.

As for pictures, I've just taken this pic in it's house after the magic petrol fairies have been over night

Is that when the car brakes when you lift off the accelerator?
If so yes, it will take a bit of getting use to but last night was mostly motorway driving.
Pro pilot is good though :)

Can you get your clubs in the boot? I struggled with my ioniq but no problems with the MG5

If your going to use Tesco sign up for podpoint app, they use them mostly, very easy to confirm charge

Have you got octopus? Get on there overnight charging tariff

Also they own the electric verse now, you can link it to your energy account to pay for charging and you can request a card that you just tap at the chargers and it will bill you

@bobmac there is a Morrisons right behind where I work, new one, with 2 chargers. They are also tucked away, nowhere near the front door. It might be irritating but it will mean that lazy people will not park there in their ICE cars simply because it is close to the door. This happens so often with parent and child places, sometimes even with disabled spaces. Whilst you may get a little wet, ultimately it means you get in the space to hook up and charge.
