I'm sorry, I don't understand you. There is an world of difference between asking about the rationale and discussing a rules decision or scenario, and acceding to an etiquette request.

That does rather explain your stance on the matter…that you say you don’t see the difference between asking the reason a player is doing something relating to a rule of golf, and asking the reason a player is asking something relating to golf etiquette. Actually I’m pretty sure you do.I'm sorry, I don't understand you.
I mean I specifically don't understand you , you seem to have gone off on a tangent of which I cannot grasp. That's the thing you don't know. The default view is that that flag always stops the ball going in , but you never really know either way. I've seen putts hit the flag that the player says wouldve dropped but id have said theyd have gone 5 foot past. If you're worried about then just have the flag left out. There have been soooooooooooooooooo many many times I'd wished I had asked to have the flag attended, as the ball hits the flag and then rolls away from the hole. Sometimes I'd be chipping on and it happened, for a two as well! I just can't bring myself to ask, but you just never know do you?
Perfect summary. Close the thread.ASKING FOR THE FLAG TO BE ATTENDED IN 2024/5:
GOLF FORUM: 100 page debate of pontificating and hypothetical scenarios, opinions of "how I want to be viewed", "I see it on TV" (actually no you don't)...etc etc etc
REAL LIFE: Don't be so daft, just hit the bloody ball...
You said you should be able to ask the reason when asked about or to do something. In context of golf of course you can when the question is relating to a rule of golf. However, and I speak for myself, I never question the reasoning when another player asks me to do something relating to etiquette. I just do as asked.I mean I specifically don't understand you , you seem to have gone off on a tangent of which I cannot grasp. Sorry
If I was playing a tie or a comp, I would tend without question - but in a bounce game it is a different matter.
As I said earlier, I’ve only been asked once since March 2020.
It's pretty much the case with all forums or groups of people though. Just filter out the nonsense, scroll past the 'always right' people. It's relatively easy to do, plenty of good stuff out there stillThis thread (like many others) perfectly sums up the "I'm right, you're wrong" forum mentality of the last few years and makes me seriously wonder if I can be bothered in 2025.
No, you're wrong about that....This thread (like many others) perfectly sums up the "I'm right, you're wrong" forum mentality of the last few years and makes me seriously wonder if I can be bothered in 2025.
Between mates it’s banter. What difference does the type of match make when it comes to basic manners and etiquette
If asked then surely would just do it for a mate as wellBetween mates it’s banter.
Nobody asks at my club.If asked then surely would just do it for a mate as well
How often do you (or anyone else) ask for it to be tended? Can never understand what the issue is if someone asks to have the flag tended , they will be asking for a reason
It’s not a hardship to anyone and surely it’s just basic good manners and good etiquette to simply hold the flag for 10-20 seconds max whilst a PP putts
We all have our own nuances whilst playing the game
