Handicaps are important to some people. Mate of mine is off +3 and missed our club champs last year because his next score to drop off was a 6 under and he wanted to make sure that he got into the English Amateur. He wouldn't have been very impressed if he went on a fun day out and was forced to submit a card.

Shocking reverse banditry!
I'm proud of him! 😆

Seems this topic is a hot potato for the OP

He probably needs to come to terms with the fact that next time he submits a score, competition or not, he is losing that 6 under. So there is a real risk of him getting a handicap increase. And if he misses qualification, then so be it.

On the flip side, if he was having a great fun day, and shot 7 under, he wouldn't be too impressed if he wasn't allowed to submit his score

Handicap Sec says he wants all cards returned and Captain wants it to be a fun day.

Captain should state, "Placing on closely mown areas and everyone gets one tee-shot Mulligan."
And maybe a few other things just to be sure.
Yep just change the format from singles stableford. Some kind of team event should do

This was last year, the 6 under has since dropped off but he is at the level where the English Am would be the pinnacle of his season. Having worked hard to get into it I don't think he would be too impressed having to submit cards in a mickey mouse day out.

Just one simple measure would do it.

It's hard to ignore the hypocrisy of anyone who insists on playing a competition by the rules of golf but wants to ignore the rules of handicapping.

It’s supposed to be a chuckle, doesn’t sound like much of a laugh if some of the fellas from here are coming 😬

This sounds like a great opportunity to have a laugh with the boys, put a crap card in and get a bandit handicap for the first big competition of the year

I actually am finding it almost laughable that so many people need to make excuses about not handing in their score. Just a "fun" day out. If these people get so stressed about handing in a card, I doubt they'd generally have fun at all. Too many other stressful things to do in the day, like tying your shoe laces :)

Quite some time ago, we had a Captain's away weekend. There were 24 of us I think. Captain said that he wanted us all to hand our scores in from both days. Not only was there no complaints, but loads thought it was a great idea. And it was a great weekend. Loads of fun, despite a few sore heads in the morning

Why did the captain want you to hand the cards in?
