Slab's Caddy Comp

After being with titleist for years he's currently with cobra for his clubs so I'll save my cobra cap for Sunday (go team)
Schoolboy error.

If he is Titleist/Cobra, what you do is turn up in a Callaway/Taylor Made/Srixon/ Ping hat so they have to go and find you a brand new on-brand one.
Thank me later ;)

Back home, a bit gutted with +1 but he's still 22nd place at 3 under and the shots that cost the bogey/ double on 14/15 won't happen tomorrow

The run of three birdies on front 9 was vanilla to be a tiny part of

A top 5 is out now I think but no reason he can't climb a few places tomorrow to get some more points towards keeping his card for 2026

Pace was lightening to start, 12 holes done in 2 1/2 hrs then we waited...to end with a 4 hr round

I'm doing my best to stand in line with tv cameras 😁 but no idea if they're running for his shots

Three ball 2 tee start tomorrow so hopefully he's high enough to start on 1st tee

I don't know why I always thought Pros took their caddie with them to every tournament. Guess it would cost a fortune and they can't afford it at the lower end, so end up hiring themselves an Alan.

There's pros and pros

The top top guys bring their own
But out of 150 players about 35 needed local Caddies for whatever reason, mostly financial but also sometimes just circumstances

Because of the time of year and location I can see several WAGs doing caddy duty this week too

He's only changed it about once per round
I get the provisional ball on 1st tee and keep that separate in case it's needed

To add to this
All the players that are signed to titleist get 3 dozen pro v's at each tournament (and some gloves)
Whether it's habit, process or superstition there's particular numbers oliver won't use in tournament so he's already gifted me the 9 number 3's 😊

Tee times are out for two tee start and we're in top half so off the 1st 😁

Very happy with that so we finish in front of the main stand
Great write up again. Well done, enjoy tomorrow and hope you receive a good pay day!.

Just make sure you mention The GM Forum lads when interviewed!

All the very best and thanks for the daily write ups.

When I play 4somes for the county seniors my usual partner won’t use a ball with a 2. Weird. It’s just a ball.

The ball I used last week to shoot 2 under was a pro-v1 I found previously and was covered in the spurs logo. I was half expecting to implode on the last hole with it and make a quadruple bogey. 🤣🤣🤣 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Just bursting a couple of blisters before last day

Done over 100k steps this week, about 80km
I hope to write up more on Monday on some of the smaller details when back in laptop but if there's any questions just ask
Are you just giving yardages or advising shot type/club based on what you have seen - are you also helping to read putts?

Can't belive how emotional invested I am in his score and performance
That's one major area where the top caddies stand out as top caddies.
They are the only friendly voice the player has under the most extreme of situations, it's their calmness and level headed thinking and advice that can make the difference between success and failure.

For what it's worth (not much) I would say just sound as calm and positive as possible, he's not expecting anything from a local guy.

No he doesn't need distances
The players course guide and pin sheet is so detailed he barely has to take half a dozen steps from ball to one of the marks made on the grass
First couple of days (tues/wed) I was able to help with orientation and what is to side/back of greens etc
Their green reading skills are so much better than a club golfer I'd be a waste of time to offer a read of a putt
He does talk through what club he'll use and the shot he playing but he's not seeking my agreement

As each day passes I do know more about which club he'll use off each tee but just as I think I'm getting a handle on his 2nd shot choices he'll come up with a shot / club that just seems inhuman to me
