Lee Westwood wrong ball?

Yeah, might be a thing. Would be interesting if they had to commit a full year.

Although I suppose they need to register for each comp they play in, so they might just put it in the paperwork each before each individual tournament before they arrive.

Glad it isn't like that for us. If I was committed to use the 120 Vice balls I bought several years back, I'd have cried after my first round with them

Yeah maybe its to make admin easier, otherwise you could potentially have a few hundred ET players making multiple changes through the year depending on course/conditions etc etc even if sticking with same brand and maybe having multiple changes back/forth. So keeping that list accurate and up to date is a lot easier if a season/year commitment is made, and a lot less likely the player makes an error using 'last weeks' ball etc

edit: To add, titleist (& I’m sure others) send balls by consignment, to the venue for their players to collect. Extra player changes means the wrong ball might turn up and player is stuffed if the pro-shop doesn’t have the one needed

There’s maybe a way but I noticed that a representative of the ET goes round various player bags prior to Thursday tee off checking equipment and specifically asks which make/model of ball is in use and its ticked off on a checklist
I was always under the impression that this was done for promotion and publicity purposes, as in:

Could well be, certainly for club brand etc that makes a lot of sense its for a WITB.
It was just the ET 'checker' wanted to confirm the year of ball being used not just make/model & maybe I got 2+2 to make 5 thinking it related to the single ball MLR

Model Local Rule G-4 only applies to each round. It might be in the player's contract with his sponsor(s), but there is nothing in the Rules of golf, or Tour "rules" that require a declaration of the ball being played for a year, nor for the next event, nor for the next round.
