I’m getting really frustrated trying to find an answer to this…so tapping into the Golf Monthly Forum Knowledge Base…

I’m giving my iPad to our lad - he will look to do a factory reset on it.

I have another iPad I’m going to be using. I’ll use the same Apple ID on it as I had when using my old iPad so that I can access all photos, files…and hopefully passwords.

I’ve checked I have no files stored on the iPad…everything is synch’d to iCloud…so photos to iCloud Photos and files to iCloud Drive. But are all my passwords backed up on iCloud…I assume that they are. Is it safe to simply remove my Apple ID from my old iPad or do I first have to halt backup - or do anything else.

TIA…👍

You need to make sure log out of the Cloud on the ipad you are giving away and then do the factory reset.

So I don’t just remove my Apple ID - I have to log out of my iCloud account first as I guess that stops synch’ing and so my photos and files will just sit in iCloud. I was just concerned that iCloud would try and synch and would synch to nothing so assume everything deleted. I assume passwords are saved in iCloud Keychain and same applies.

If you look in Settings > iCloud it should tell you how how many passwords you have saved to iCloud
Will check. I now also have a MacBook with the same apple account and I can see all my passwords in the Keychain app on the MacBook…just a bit bothered about disconnecting my old iPad from the iCloud account. And to add…if I log out of my iCloud account from my iPad do I retain logged in from my MacBook…so is it the device that’s logged out or is it the Apple account that is?

I think so long as you can see them in KeyChain on the Mac they will continue to be available regardless of whether your iPad is logged in or out of your iCloud account.

No, the device will still be “attached” to your ID if you don’t log it out of ICloud.

If you’ve got other Apple Devices you have no issues, I have a Mac, son a Macbook and both me and the wife Ipads + Iphones, recently upgraded a phone and the only thing I had to ensure before getting rid of old Appke device (phone) was to ensure it was logged out of icloud before I factory reset it.

Had no impact on other devices on our account via ICloud.
