We don't have separate mens & seniors events, they all play together - we just have men/ladies separation.
This is because the ladies pay less, to not play on a saturday, (there are 2 or 3 7 day members who can play on the saturday with the men, as they pay full price [in fact one is a junior so she can only play on a saturday when their isn;t a junior handicap restriction]) - this is their choice. As they are entitled to their own competition times in the week.

The main committee has tried to get the ladies to change but they don't want too!

Why are ladies only allowed on many courses at certain times, and juniors have to play with seniors?

Think it is fair to say, times have moved on since those days and that does not exist at clubs...:)

Historically, women paid a lower annual subscription to men but had restricted access to the course, generally not allowed to play on Saturday mornings etc.
As for juniors, I think that may have been to mentor them in how to behave, follow the rules etc etc.

Why does the 70 year old not want to play in the same comp as the 20 year old ? It is that segregation I just do not understand, as to me the solutions are so simple, ie. open it to all and have all tee times on the day available for the comp and make it optional. Its probably because I see us all the same just a handicap golfer but must be missing something as most golf clubs are still section based?:D

I am nearly that age and I know of others in there 80s who happily play in the same comps as the 20 year olds.

However I also know of a lot of guys who will only ever play in the Seniors comps

This week I won our Seniors section medal off the whites but in the conditions of the day it probably would not have been good enough for a weekend medal off the whites. The winning score for the Saturday medal was 3 shots better than that scored by me on Saturday by somebody who is quite a few years away from being a senior.

Some ladies sections pay less and have there own competition times. Often chosen by the ladies themselves.

Juniors can’t always play in adults competitions because they are likely to be improving at a faster rate and would therefore win everything. Normally only those below certain handicap can play the adult competitions.

Can we not play at the same time but be in different comps? For example, I could be in a 3 ball with a senior, a lady and myself, all playing in our own comps but going around in the same 3. At the moment the ladies block their time slot, the seniors block theirs out and the men block their's on one day, although not for others.

There are times in the week where the course is closed to 2 of the three sections. Why?
Probably to allow for another important aspect of Golf - the social element. Women, Seniors and Juniors often, though not always, like to associate with similar category folk to themselves. Having 'separate' sections/comps/bloc times certainly allows that without too much 'agro'.

At our club, juniors can play in all adult competitions as soon as they have a valid hanicap. And of course they can play the course at any time when there is no comp ongoing as well. For the younger ones and the beginners who don't have a handicap yet, there is a timeslot on Saturday afternoons when they can play accompanied by an adult (normally parents or some of our team members volunteer for that). Or they can play with their parents if they are also members at other times. There are also junior competitions and training camps held during pretty much every school holiday, in cooperation with some of the surrounding golf clubs, so basically they can compete with other juniors somewhere every day during holidays. Whenever I have been in a group with a junior at our club in a comp, I enjoyed the experience. They tend to be very well behaved and competent, stick to ettiquette, know all the rules etc. It always tickels me when they take their hat off with a very earnest expression before shaking your hand on the 18th green.

Sadly not. Women still have their comps on a Tuesday and preference on the tee from 8.30-10.30 at my place. It is a brave man that tries to get off just in front of them. Those withering looks could shrivel rhino hide at 50 paces
