Scott Gourlay Custom Fit Driver Vega, KZG, Taylormade R11 Which driver to go for

Ive got to say, Im giving some serious thought into paying Scott a visit myself, Im very open minded about the gear I use, and the more I read on here, the reviews, and recommendations, Im impressed

There is a good bit of mileage between us, ( Im in Newcastle upon Tyne ) but there is Nobody offering this type of service in My area.

Im considering treating myself to New Irons, which is why Im bringing it up.
Cos if I dont, I will just be picking from the 'usual suspects' Big OEM offerings, and nothing really stands out to me at present.
Ive Never been 'properly' fit for Irons, normally buy what I fancy, just get the correct lies, or if impatient, buy off the shelf, and get lies tweaked.........

But Id probably get my full bag of Toys checked out if I did take the Plunge

I was looking to get more info on Website, but as stated earlier, his site is down :(

How you doing Bigslice. It was a really weird experience hitting something that is so big. After hitting my 3+ ERC. I tried loads of clubs and shafts for an hour on trackman, and i have the use of a Taylormade R11s 10.5 for a couple of days. I cant remember the name of the shaft. Because i have a really steep attacking swing, i was limited to what shaft i went for. Well to cut a long story short, its amazing how i can hit this thing. I still have to go back for a couple of tweek's, and i will post up the stats when i get them.

Yes i think so, i need to go back tomorrow and speak to Scott about a couple of things. I really like TM R11s, because i can alter the loft and fade or draw shots. The only thing i would like is a little more hight on my shots.

you can have my height fae my driver the ball lands with a parachute, did you go in with an open mind or had you really want the TM. costs? thecraw posted his so dont be shy

I always have an open mind when i am getting fitted with Scott. When i got fitted for my irons, i wanted cavity back, Scott recommended forged TM MC irons, i didn't think i could hit these clubs, well i was so wrong. I love my new irons. Scott knows i will go with what he says will work for me, he has been 100% correct so far.

i googled your erc thing, im guesing the technology in the r11s and size is vastly different, ive two drivers at moment r7 cgb max 12 degree and the one in my sig. ideally i would like a diff shaft in the r7 but well prepared to take the fitters advice. how long did you have to wait for an appointment

bigslice theres a good fitter down your way with a good shaft selection, might save a long journey, uses flightscope and balls hit into the air as opposed to a cloth, I'll see if I can get his number

But if you are properly fitted you won't need to change the loft - and fade and draw can/should be done by the swing and 'as required' rather than by a setting at the beginning of a round.

Ok guys, after hitting shed loads with Scotts R11s 10.5 Driver. Scott and i have came to the same conclusion. I can hit an R11s 3 wood the same distance, straighter, generally more consistent, than an R11 10.5 Driver. I think its down to me never used a driver before. The good thing thats came out of this, is that Scott has found a shaft that really works to keep the spin rate down on my shots. So i want a slightly deeper face to the R11 3 wood, so i have chosen RBZ 3 wood 14.5 loft fitted with Dymatch 2.0 RTM3 @ 43.5". This will be a lot easier to hit than my 3+ ERC. I will post up my stats as soon as i get them.

Once i buy my 3 wood, i will need a 5 & 7 wood and a rescue club as well. I just need to get my gapping right from my 5 iron onwards. For me the driver is a lot harder to hit, i don't need to think with a 3 wood, just get up and hit it. lol its a strange game.

Scott put a 3 wood shaft in a R11 10.5 Driver head, and i could hit that better than a standard length shaft. Its just the sheer size of the head on a driver, pig ugly if you ask me. lol

Grats on the fitting, I think its a shame you did not get a driver but if you are happy then all power to you.

I have always found the driver the easiest club to hit, the ball all pegged up high and that huge head. My game words around my driver and if I am having a bad driving day it can be a long day.

About how far were you hitting that 3 wood off the tee then, long enough to make your second shot not too far?

No idea of your standard really but if you have a problem with spin you may want to get rid of that Pro V1, I moved onto the NXT Tour and it was a bit help to me.

When does the new club come or do you have it already?

Have read your threads with interest and found them very interesting. Its great you found shafts away from the big OEM'S like PX, DG and Nippon, good luck with the new wands

Alex, u make a good point there, I like the ProV1 myself, but do NOT use it, I find it spins Too Much for me, off the driver, and I actually hit it shorter than I do, compared to my Callaway Tour iS , or Srixon Z Star, TP Penta.............
