Right guys looks like decision made and this match will be held on the above dates at Berwick upon Tweed (Goswick)Golf Club.

I am now going to jot down the prices that are going to be involved for the event and rough idea of what we have in mind....any ideas/tweaks to the itinery are welcome guys just post away!

Golf....we are looking to play this in a Ryder Cup sort of style with 18 on the Friday teeing off approx midday then have food afterwards followed by a few ales back in town then a further 18 on Saturday teeing off approx 10.30.

Costs....I have secured a heavily discounted rate of £30 for the golf in total and the club will do us a 2 course meal after play on the Friday of say Soup followed by anything from Lamb Shank (who mentioned that word?!!),Gammon Steak,Pork Chops,Beef Bourgignon,Fish n Chips or the like for £10.

We will be playing our full summer course of 6820 yards thanks to a kind word with big Geordie our Head Greenkeeper(hope he has an off night seeing as I promised some ales on the clubs xmas night out!!) so I am sure you will agree that is a fantastic deal 36 holes and bait for £40.

With regards to numbers I think we will be looking at 16 in total,I know that upward of 24 have shown interest but my experience is that when it comes to actually commiting 16 will be nearer the figure.
If we get more than that it would be great but really probably 20 is the maximum the club could get in on a Saturday in February.

Invites are of course extended to all and it would be especially nice to have some of the GM team at the meet.
I have as you will all no doubt be aware not been shy in proclaiming how good I consider Goswick to be so GM boys how about coming up and sampling it at first hand? :)

I really cannot think of a better venue for a game between the 2 nations especially when you consider the turbulant history the town of Berwick upon Tweed has had with regards to great battles between the Scots and the English with the town having changed hands 13 times between the 2 nations(maybe a good angle for an article to cover the event for the mag MIKE H??!!)so come on fellas lets make this happen, and come on the Scots lads lets secure a win for our nation on occupied territory! :D

Below are various links from reviews on the course to the club website to links for accommdation in the town.

I think out of accommodation available I would be inclined to think that the Castle Hotel may be best suited as it offers good cheap clean digs in the middle of the town with the added bonus of a nice bar attached to it!
I have also got links to good B&B's for those who may wish their own space and can join up with the guys for an ale later.

If anyone has any questions/points/problems let me know and I can see what can be done to help/change/accommodate.

In the meantime those in please post on and let me know so I can see the numbers we are looking at.......

Thanks for all the work Dodger.

I've got the email away to the boss at work asking for time off and will discuss with The Boss when she gets home later about getting out unsupervised for two days!

Here's hoping this turns out to be a good one. The Local meets we've had up here have been great so far. This one could top them all.

Will confirm asap when I get the word from work and The Boss.

Had a look at the course on my way home from work, thank goodness I was sitting down! Looks a nightmare for losing balls, sends shivers down us parkland players spines!

I want to do it, will speak with some more of the Britannia superior residents over the weekend and get back to you.

I would love to be there but alas that's too far for a Southern Shandy drinking poofter to travel for a knock around in February. Hope you all have a great time.

I'll have a tenner says the sweaties are hammered 16-0 though

Superlative work, dodger. Count me in for both rounds and the overnight stay.

Just one thing not mentioned. Think it should be noted that everyone has the option to play either one or both rounds according to what time they have available.

If you want to just play on the Saturday, for example, you could join up on the Saturday morning.... or take a half day off and stay over on Friday night for "a few small sherries" and be up and ready for the early Saturday morning start.

Hopefully over the two days we'll secure at least one day of fine weather, eh?

Looking forward to a good get together. Now, where are my tartan troos?

Yep, I'm in, but again, need to confirm with a couple of others about transport etc, but in theory, put me in for Friday (very early start, grrr) and Saturday plus the stop over.

I will leave booking accommo to individuals, follow my links and reccomendations.Castle hotel would be my 1st port of call.
Nearest airport equa distance Edinburgh/Newcastle but you would need a lift from there as a taxi would break the bank (guessing £60 each way)Scots/Yorks guys passing may pick you up drop off if possible lads??

I could pick someone up at Edinburgh airport if they're making the trip. Only courtesy.

From Edinburgh, Goswick is only just over an hour and 20 mins by car, so look into it, Homer. Would be good to have you there.

Tincup I would say it is 99percent certain to be going ahead as we have around 12 defs already.I think given that the post of costs/dates etc has been on for less than 24hrs I would think that a few folk will be checking with HID/work/finances etc before stating their intentions so I personally don't think I will be posting any further info re the event till after the weekend.
I think what I am trying to say is that I am sure it will go ahead but really no need to book accommo yet as Berwick on a Friday in Feb won't be sold out rooms wise!
Once I have numbers I will be posting back on with details of deposit for golf/tee times etc but really the dates/golf times are set in stone so if you want to get time off work booked I suggeast fire away!
