Random Irritations

I was lucky that my mum was very much into saving and I managed to save around £30k to go on the deposit of the first house my wife and I bought. I feel so srry for those trying to get on the ladder but is it any coincidence more and more flats are going up in towns so more rents can be charged. A cycle begins that your eldest is finding, and not alone, that is hard to break
Yes, we saved well for our first house because we had spare cash because our rent was at a level where we had the opportunity to put some aside. It was a squeeze but doable. Now nigh on impossible

Sanctimonious bores.

I hope you’re not going to be one of those idiots who constantly complains and questions the guy running the driver awareness course. Had one of those bores about 10 years ago and it dragged the course out an extra hour or so 😴
You always get one!
A guy on my course insisted that it was OK to drive at 80mph on the motorway.

Ronnie O'Sullivan's constant whining, even when he wins. Always has an excuse and moan about how is is playing really badly, needs a new cue (shouldn't have snapped the last one!), hates the game, etc.
If you hate it that much, find something else to do and don't play anymore.

I agree. And when picked up on it he'll call it his mental health issues. I have no doubt he has had issues and demons but if doing your job makes you that unhappy do something different. I am sure he'd earn a good living as a coach and/or commentator

The underground does. TFL doesn't. All profits are used to fund projects to improve the network

All things that should be funded by central gov and for example Paris metro is state funded and has cheap fairs

You can thank your pal bojo for that one. That and his garden bridge 🤣

Why should central govt fund a business that's making a profit? People bemoan the fact Thames Water hasn't funded infrastructure projects, and that govt will end up picking up the tab yet here you are saying... never mind.

How about reducing your margin, still making a modest profit and reducing your fares?

It's not a business it's a service. As I keep repeating the underground makes a massive profit but TFL doesn't. The undergrounds profits fund TFL..

I believe our operating surplus this year is 38 million but that goes straight into improvements to the network

We used to get a 500 million a year grant, it was taken away. Fares had to make up as did rents (we own most of London)

DPD since Sunday have been awful

Now I want to add that dpd have for years been fantastic, never let me down

Sunday , parcel left on door step. Driver runs off. Safe space around back
Monday , parcel left on door stop marked as "handed to Paul" I was out. Safe space again, round the back
Yesterday parcel unable to leave safe , cool deliver to local shop for me .. 9pm comes unable to do that coming back tomorrow

Today .. will arrive 1425-1525 .. get My dad round to wait for it.

It's current 1642. The driver has been on delivery 61 (I'm 62) since 1455..; he is moving further and further Away from the house

He was also opposite the house at 1430 but his route took him away

Real downtrend in service

oh here we go. "sorry we missed you" so called the depot again and spoke to the same lovely lady. she said this isnt right he isnt even on your road when hes said this.

ive said its since sunday when i complained they left the parcel unsafe the drivers have suddenly decided to do this so i believe its connected. funny how it was fine before.. (well the same driver ALWAYS left the parcel on the step and run but i got to the door i assumed if he didnt see me he would take the parcel round back turns out he doesnt)

shes contacting her manager to contact the driver to explain his actions.

Re the above. if only the drivers were as good as the depot team

she called me back again, the driver has been spoken to and told to deliver the parcel today. so will arrive. she is going to call me back before she finishes to check its arrived and management are going to look into the drivers as to why they are leaving parcels on door steps and not the agreed safe spots.

I have the same issue with Amazon but any complaint seems to fall on deaf ears. At least DPD are taking you seriously

The blunt answer is that one voice complaining is lost in the grand scheme of things. All carriers are shipping a gazillion parcels a day and the odd complaint is just written off and ignored.

We deal with all of the carriers and the customer service on all of them is poor at best and woeful in the main. Have low expectations and anything above that is a bonus.

I really dont get the issue. the agreed spot is around the back of my property. which is a massive shared drive so the parcels can be left safely either over my gate or by it ...out of sight. its say a 10 - 15 meter walk if that.

normally (and EVRI always do) the drivers will just pop round the back , take a pic to prove

i dont know if picture proof has been removed because monday when they "handed to me" i found it on my driveway with no pic proof

just a lovely update.. 5 mins after she called.. the driver sped up to the house with the parcel.. well next time deliver when you should. dont lie and you wont get a call

I've had the "handed to me" when I've been in all day and no-one has rung the bell or knocked and no-one has handed anything.

£35

In 1965 £35 bought you a set of 9 quality golf irons

Today I found out that it buys you a Boots No 7 lipstick and a compact powder refill
Not for me obviously :D
I went to pay and thought £8 tops.

amazon do that all the time however DPD have always been fantastic. set on the app where to leave the parcel. I believe clubhouse golf wont let their parcels be left anymore without you taking full liability for it... but then to say you handed it to myself is just stupid

I really cant stand people not doing the basics of their job correctly

Better than points and the inevitable increase in insurance next year. Think of it as a punch on your thigh rather than a kick between the legs. Neither is good but you've got the lesser of the two evils.
A lot of insurance companies and comparison sites are now asking about courses so could still affect the price
