Random Irritations

No, what you mean is some of us have to pay for the waste and inefficiency rife in public services. Just read back some of your many replies and comments and tell me I'm wrong..:)
We pay a lot more for the waste and inefficiency in for-profit private services. That is where by far the most waste and inefficiency of our economy lies.
Take the price of brand new golf clubs as an example.
TV services is another good example.
Waste waste waste and inefficiencies galore.

I love a good moan.

Doesn't have a nice zing tho does it .. people prefer a daily mail quip that when fact checked is proved to be rubbish

Well that was a surreal 18 hours without electricity, almost post-apocalyptic. Being without electricity for a few hours happens every few months anyway but 18 hours...

Starting just afternoon yesterday it just felt like another isolated loss of service. But when bars, restaurants and shops started closing their doors it was beginning to look serious. No phone or Internet via the phone.

Our problem... virtually zero cash in the house. ATM'S not working, and shops not taking cards. Bread, ham and pate was all we had in - not filled the cupboards since moving in.

Electricity came back on just before 7am but no broadband nor phone.

Verily have we lunched today.
Lightweight..........over 72 hours with us earlier this year.
The cost of living in rural Scotland. :)

Mind you the winter storm is surpassed by a glorious spring, Our local farmer making his first silage cut today.
Must be some sort of record for Scotland, first cut in April. The coos have also been out in the fields from about 3 weeks ago.

But only the private sector contributes to the nations coffers, the public sector do not… when politicians talk about economic growth they are not talking about the public sector are they?

What’s the saying? The private sector needs to work 7 days a week so the public sector can spend it in 4! 😆

Well we all pay in taxes to be fair so in a way everyone contributes but I get what you mean

You need to grow the public sector to have services to use

No point having money if there isn't a society around you worth being a part of

When my wife was donwsized out of the bank she worked for, she got a job in the local authority doing payments for social care. She did in a morning what it took 2 of them to do in a day, and was told to "slow down". When she was promoted to running that section, she uncovered so much overpayment where invoices were just paid without question for nothing done.
She could only stomach working in the public sector for a year.

My wife's cousin works for the local authority and was allowed to reduce his hours to a 3 day week. However, he is also able to save up work once a fortnight to then come in for overtime on a Saturday at double time - not a bad dodge really.
We both work in the private sector, "what's overtime" we said when he asked if we got paid for our extra hours.
