Random Irritations

My wife had to get a new laptop for work. She is currently cursing away as she fights to set it up. The hardest battle is fighting Microsoft's constant need to be the dominant feature of everything. Link up all devices, use our browser ..............I thought all of this was supposed to have been stopped?
Windows 11, presumably. What a total crock of poo that is. It's not an operating system, more an advertising platform.

Unless her work requires her to use Windows, just wipe it and install Linux.

We’ve never been before so couple of months back we booked a few days in Rome - arriving 14th May - with a guided tour of Vatican City inc. Sistine Chapel booked for the 15th. Staying close to the Vatican we have been really looking forward to it.

Then today the Pope goes and dies. Conclave to elect new Pope must start between 6th and 12th May - and on average takes 3 days…brilliant just brilliant. Has to be odds on our tour getting cancelled. Rome will be rammed…and cynic that I am I am waiting for our accommodation to be in touch telling us of an admin error that means we must rebook…at whatever the cost now is even if it’s still available - maybe i am just too cynical and all will be good. But I doubt it. It’s almost funny if it wasn’t rather sad - our trip to Rome knackered by the Pope dying..🙄
I'm not a religious person, but always accept how those who have faith live their lives.

But this post by you is pretty terrible for a person who spends a lot of time spouting about their faith in this forum.

I had you on ignore anyway, but read the recent posts because it was a significant thing to read about.

You should be ashamed about that post. Even if you made it in some kind of ironic way.

Is that a lost licence speed?

My mate had a battered old ford KA which the Speedo didn't work

He got pulled in a 50 doing over 100.. the police were laughing

"how fast do you think you were going"

"About 70"

"We were going 110 to catch you"

"Na don't be silly it doesn't go that fast!"

"We didn't think that either! What's the limit?"

"70"

"It's 50.. what if someone had pulled out in front of you"

"I would have hurt them"

"Exactly, now slow down and get the hell out of My sight"

Can tell he was at the end of his shift lol

How come I never cme across these coppers at the end of a shift or more importantly on the way to a refs break

Think it's My mates personality, he's so damn likeable. Nicest guy in the world and has that loveable charm

Could prob get away with murder
Cheekiness can sometimes work.
A chap I worked with was once stopped by the police, and when they said "you were doing 97", he tapped the Speedo and said "that's strange, this said 105".
Still got nicked, though.

Always remember a mate of mine getting stopped for speeding back in the 1980’s.

He was approached by the two cops after a short but “exhilarating” (his word) pursuit, and his opening gambit to them was;

“Who do you two think you are? Starskey and Hutch?”

Needless to say he didn’t get let off with just a word in his ear.

Ive been pulled over twice

First time I was 19, I had 6 points aged 18 for crashing my car and lost my licence for driving without due care so i was being careful after retaking my rest etc

Chelmsford got pulled over doing 35 in a 30. I honest to god thought the limit was 40 , it was wet so was taking it easy

Speed trap. Essex police traffic officers are very by the book compared to the met .. did me there and then

Second time I got pulled was on way home from football training, I booted it out a side road to 60 (in a 50) then slowed down when I noticed the speed. They followed me for 2 miles. Pulled me. "We saw you drive off, didn't speed long enough for us to do you for that but we think you are drunk blow this" fine by me mate apart from my honey moon (which hadn't happened yet) I haven't drunk since I was 18 so test me away lol 🤣

The amount of news air time that's being dedicated to queues of people waiting to see the Pope in his coffin and the pointless interviews of said people. What do the reporters expect to hear?
I know he was important to a lot of folk, but there is other news.
He's passed, can we not please move on?

Honestly…can you not see that my post was said wryly, in me seeing the irony of arranging something we’d wanted to do for many years then a completely unexpected, and in this case very unfortunate, event happens. Are we upset our plans are put into doubt…no. Are we disappointed…no…OK tbh..a little…but so be it - I am more saddened by the passing of a good man.

That said, I apologise as my post has upset some.

Morbid bad news keeps up the interest unfortunately

And he was a hugely important person to a massive group

I had similar, gave up drinking a long time ago and was almost hoping to be pulled over, randomly not for an offence obviously 🙄 and it finally happened a couple of years ago, coming back from a game at The Roxburghe two police cars were stopping one or two cars into a laybye so I slowed down and sure enough waved in, after a quick check round the car looking at lights and tyres etc they made polite conversation and eventually asked 'When did you last have a drink sir' I was delighted to reply 'June '98 officer'

It was...but luckily just for 2 weeks (along with a hefty fine).

Snotty magistrate said something along the lines of "we dont appreciate folks from Essex speeding on our (Surrey) roads".

Must have been some sort of illness going round our office because three of us in my team (including our boss) all got caught (and subsequently banned) speeding within a 10 day period.

Nothing to apologise for Shug. Other people choose if they are upset, you don't control that. Most folk seen the post for what it is, but there will always be contrarians for anything.

In a similar vein the “Outcry” last week because Toby Carvery had chopped down a rotten Oak tree. Three days running the BBC had it on their website, the final day was some ridiculous woman standing next to the reduced Tree (with her best Compo face on) saying how the tree gave her comfort during the pandemic! Honestly some people!

BBC interview. I've seldom seen a man so up his own backside. Really thinks he's something. Be glad when he's off our screens.
Funny this - not going to labour the point but when I said similar about McIlroy and how I couldn't warm to him, you criticised me for it. Now I don't see what you see in Lineker, I think he's been a fantastic presenter over the years, and I've enjoyed his football podcast in the past too. Just shows you that people can be interpreted differently I guess.
