Random Irritations

Why do councils fix some potholes but leave others that are just a few feet away? The people, tools and materials are already at the scene. Just fix the others while you're there! It must surely save money in the longer term, not having to send out the team again.

I asked the same question when they only repaired 4 square yards of tarmac to the right of my kerb/ driveway.
Another yard would've done my bit.
But NO chance the guy said " we can only do exactly what is marked by the surveyor,
even though we still have enough tarmac left here to do it.
Council's are crazy.

BBC site being down when I want to listen ot the footy....
That’s very unusual as the service level availability for the BBC website…well it used to be for the home (for news) website at least, is 4x9s.

So whenever I need to check my internet connection if it’s been a bit flakey I always look to navigate to the BBC Home site.

Just what I asked the guys filling a couple of potholes in the road outside our house after they pointed out an adjacent area of tarmac that had split and was starting to crumble and told me that they be back soon. Of course they are contractors to the council and their company will get more from the additional call out than for fixing the hole to come.

If it's been outsourced they'll only do it if they are getting paid for it!

So councils send out a surveyor to mark the potholes first? That's even more waste of money. It's not exactly rocket science to see where there's a pothole. No surveyor needed.
In any case why doesn't the surveyor mark ALL the potholes while he's there?

Ridiculous it seems to be down to us a bit aswell

If a pothole isn't reported I don't believe they consider it as urgent

For example outside ours we had say 5 potholes. 4 together and 1 about 20 meters away

They came marked the 4 together

Repaired them few days later

The 20 meter away one remained unmarked until a week later

Such a waste of money

A cash cow for the contractor…see also the profits that Nursing agencies are making…🤬

It's always the same when contractors get government contracts. The cost gets inflated

I remember when Lul had tubelines split from them under public private partnership they were charging like £300 or something silly to just change a light bulb

Now we own them again it's just a fixed salary and cost of parts for repairs

Of course we need to report potholes. You can't expect the council to routinely go round inspecting all the roads all the time.

But I'm referring to the insanity of seeing a couple of potholes marked with yellow while there are a few others right next to them not marked.
I understand that the definition of a pothole is that it has to be 4cm deep, but to simply ignore others nearby that are, say, 3cm deep is just silly.

I don't see why more councils don't invest in one of these.
JCB PotholePro fixes three years worth of potholes in four months
Actually, I know the reason why. They look at the short term spend instead of long-term savings. I see it in the NHS all the time.

the same happens with the PFI hospitals
