There was a thread about private education/schooling… wanted to post something but I can’t find it. May have been blocked for turning political
A lot of threads seem to quietly disappear lately. Like the one about the transgender swimmer (and other trans issues that were discussed). Seems that it's not only politics that can't be discussed, it's anything even slightly polarising. There was a thread about private education/schooling… wanted to post something but I can’t find it. What was that about an oxymoron you mentioned earlier?A lot of threads seem to quietly disappear lately. Like the one about the transgender swimmer (and other trans issues that were discussed). Seems that it's not only politics that can't be discussed, it's anything even slightly polarising.
Yes investment has doubled but I bet your bill has more than doubled in that time, I know mine has. The debt remains, Thames water pays 28% of every bill in interest payments alone with every chance it could go bust this year. But since privatisation, investment in the water industry has roughly doubled… this would never have happened if the Government was in control of the purse strings.
Investment in the water industry - Ofwat
We all rely on water every day and we know how important it is for people being able to live healthy, fulfilled lives. There is more focus on the water industry than ever before, including […]www.ofwat.gov.uk
If people could discuss politely, without offense, without politics or bringing the GM brand into disrepute then threads would stay where they are. (basically, follow the rules of the forum). Just my opinion, of course, but the current model is lazy and part of the problem. If people could discuss politely, without offense, without politics or bringing the GM brand into disrepute then threads would stay where they are. (basically, follow the rules of the forum). Sadly.................
We do have a three strikes system now and it will be far more brutal than the previous system. This will be seen over time, as people who cause trouble disappear from the forum.Just my opinion, of course, but the current model is lazy and part of the problem.
Deal with the problem which is the people. The subject isn’t the problem. I’m on loads of other forums where political discussion is allowed. It works because they deal with the people that break the rules. Three strikes and out.
Almost everything we do is buffeted by the political wind. Politics influence is too broad just to blanket ban, every conversation becomes neutered.
But, as I say, just my opinion.
Again, the problem wasn’t dealt with. The majority of the users that caused the ban are still active. That is just not right. We do have a three strikes system now and it will be far more brutal than the previous system. The politics ban was brought about because those discussions just overwhelmed the mods. It was impractical to continue. Can you allow some politics, a medium amount or a free for all? Not my decision but I understand why it happened. The ban came in at a time when politics was taking over everything, Brexit at its peak from memory. Perhaps that may be reviewed in future, maybe not. Make a request in the feedback section
Posting dirge isn't a banning offence unfortunatelyAgain, the problem wasn’t dealt with. The majority of the users that caused the ban are still active. That is just not right.
Banning discussion doesn’t make people better people. Just look at the dirge being posted on several topics daily now. Same users over and over and over.
Agreed! I would prefer if everything wasn't shut down at the first sign of a disagreement. Let the gammons show themselves and be removed, rather than the whole thing swept under the rug each time.Just my opinion, of course, but the current model is lazy and part of the problem.

Linking to a site suggesting EV drivers are massively overweight vegans who are LGBGT extremist tree huggers is not political, it's pathetic. The EV thread might as well be left versus right as the continued debate about their practicality goes on. When someone makes the comparison to veganism, it’s not even remotely veiled anymore.
Just my opinion, of course, but the current model is lazy and part of the problem.

I've just thought of 6 new thread titles for some possible further interesting discussion. Many thanks.for me it’s simple
If you don’t want to talk about a topic then don’t talk about it or go in the thread
If you don’t like what someone else posts then don’t respond to them
If you want to enter into a discussion then do it without insults or snide comments and try and stay on topic
And if someone posting stuff really bothers you then just put them on ignore
There is nothing wrong with heated debates etc providing it’s respectful and within the rules of the forum
The politics “era” Brexit mainly dominated the forum which was a shame - and could see why it was banned
I'm fine with there being no overtly political threads allowed. But countless topics have nuances that are slightly political, walking the tightrope of what you can and can't mention is hard sometimes.I used to Mod on a very large and profitable (to the owners) forum. The decision was made by the owners that no political threads are allowed at all. Mods are unpaid volunteers. Made life so much easier for us and the forum was better for it.
Good God Sir! No interest in scones? I pity you.I’m often surprised ppl (often the same ppl) have the motivation and desire to ‘discuss’ almost any topic on what is primarily a golf forum with an off topic area
I mean I’m happy to post in a thread about Mince Pies but a Scone thread too!
I dunno if having a shallow pool of interest is to my advantage or disadvantage & I’m not even bothered enough to ponder it beyond the time it took me to type that
