That's the best title I could think of.

We have been out for meals a couple of times recently, Wagamama and Topolabamba. Topolabamba is a Mexican Tapas style restaurant in Glasgow.

In both places the servers have told us that the order may rrive on any order and it does !!

Thought it was ok if a little ad hoc, what does everyone else think about this style of restaurant ?

Its exactly the same in Vietnam and cambodia. You learn to share dishes. If not your partners meal could come 10 mins later. Or two mins after you have started sharing initial dish. Very odd and crap.

I'm not a fan of this sort of dining where a group all order a couple of things and share them. Always seems that I don't fancy about half the stuff that gets ordered and everybody eats mine!

Not sure I understand the idea of this. Do you get to choose any of the food or is the idea you order but it comes at random times? Can you explain more for a country boy who doesn't get into the city much now 😁

In essence LT you order what you want, starters and main. There's four of you. Except the starters don't all come at once, there's a chance mains might come before someone has had there starter. Bottom line is, it is rubbish service.

Last night 6 of us went to Chiquito's a Mexican restaurant in East Kilbride. Not really my type of food but everything served correctly and at the right time.

If I order a 'starter' then that's when I want it and I certainly don't want a desert before another, probably, savoury course.

If they didn't give me the service I asked for they can expect to whistle for getting paid the full amount. Daft.

At these restaurants if you order starter main dessert it will come in that order

Some places will bring starter and main at the same time but not a problem

Occassionally you will have a 5 min wait between the first person and last person getting served...but in most restaurants food just sits in the kitchen getting cold until all dishes are ready to be brought out.

I like this system, it means the food gets to you as it is prepared rather than being held in the kitchen while other dishes are finished.

The meal is a rolling experience, although it is only for staters/main dishes - desserts are ordered separately.

I think a few respondents are commenting without the experience of this type of service - check out Wahaca, it’s good.

Professional chefs time dishes ordered together to finish together. Order for table one comes in at one time and goes out at one time. A chef that can't manage that is a cook, not a chef and they need to start their training again.

Food 'culture' elsewhere doesn't always work with our more regimented expectations of a meal out...

I quite like meze/tapas style meals where I can 'graze' over a couple of hours whilst enjoying the company of family/friends...
