Professional Golf

Well outside of the AK story it was also the largest attendance at a golf event in Australian history, but yeah, you hacking round with double bogeys all over the card is just the same..... :ROFLMAO: 🤝
Aye, the Aussies do love their sport and are embracing LIV, no doubt about that. Just goes to show what a success a big tournament/major would be down there.

Make no mistake, there’ll be a triple in there too, wind is howling, freezing cold and raining!

What is extreme about what I said?
What you said was more hyperbolic than potentially extreme.

Was history really being made?
Yes For Kim (his family and fans) his comeback was historic!

Was it historic for Aussie golf due to attendance? Yes

Was it historic and ground breaking across the World of Golf (outside of Kin’s fanbase)? No

Does it move the needle and put LIV up there as a rival to other tours ? No

Your claim as a fan is understandable but nobody watched history being made and in a weeks time the golf world moves forward and this weeks event changes nothing in the game.

I’m a Kim fan and was when he was on PGAT, so I’m really happy for him but no history has been made. Just my opinion of course.

What “history was made”

A talented golfer comes back and wins

It’s not the first time it’s happened

As with the “one of the Greatest events in golf” - there is no need to go over the top as if looking for some justification

It’s a great win in the event that is a success on LIV - just enjoy that instead of silly hyperboles

So name the golfers that have a story that compares with AK for me please.

Tiger Woods

Had 4 back surgeries, had his spine fused , struggling to walk , told will never play again

Then goes on to with the Tour Championship, then his first major in 11 years at The Masters

That will be talked about for decades

Just like Nicklaus winning The Masters

Most will forget Kim winning within weeks

Great story for him but it won’t create headlines for weeks

Erik Compton - Heart transplant and went on to finish 2nd at the US Open

Tiger after all his surgeries coming back to win the Masters in 2019

BUT!! The ultimate comeback I thought everyone would know about:

Ben Hogan - Head on collision with a Greyhound bus in 1949, Dr’s thought he’d never walk again so bad were his injuries. Went onto win the US Open in 1950.

Kims comeback whilst sensational will never beats Hogans.

So it's the fourth best golfing comeback in history but not historic?

Who said it’s fourth best. You asked for some names I just named 3 I know of. I’m not a golfing encyclopaedia so can’t name every single one.

I’ve given my opinion of how it is historic for him and his fans but across the world of golf it doesn’t move the needle. I’m a big AK fan and happy for him but I’m not going to sit and argue the toss about how it’s a hugely historic event when I don’t think it is.

Had he done what he’s done on the PGAT you could argue the case better due to strength of fields, how long the tours been going etc but on LIV a tour with zero history it’s hard to make a shout for a historic event!

Rather than being so defensive and focused on this petty argument maybe just enjoy the moment as I’m sure AK is 👌

Getting drunk on weak Yank beer and throwing cans and glasses all over a hole is unique to the WM tournament, but that doesn't make it good in some people's eyes ;)
Agree, but that is what makes WM unique.

The Masters also has a lot of “traditions”, some of them are very corny, but they do differentiate it from a run of the mill tour event, which was ori’s point.

There used to be, when Liv first appeared and strong controversy followed it. Time has passed, Liv is now part of the professional golf world. It should be entirely possible to chat about all pro golf on this one thread without it becoming them and us.

There is a separate Liv thread for some of the wider issues regarding that tour but this one is about tournament golf across the tours and Liv is part of that.

As is shown by post 6,629, this thread also covers the ladies tour. All pro golf ...........
This thread should be about pro golf.

But someone is hijacking it to advertise Liv with a constant stream of propaganda and to promote their X account with click bait/ rage bait.

I was a bit torn watching the golf last night from Pebble. It was entertaining watching the weather challenge the players: some brilliant shots and some awful shots too. But it became so slow. Watching players constantly backing off putts because the ball was oscillating is really tedious.

The last couple of groups were torture on 18. Think they took 35mins to complete the last hole. I've never seen someone back off a putt so much. Not sure if you seen it but someone's putt nearly blew back into the hole after going a few inches past.

That’s most of the PGAT events to be honest - it’s why I rarely watch them , its too slow and at times very little golf going on
