Perhaps like a few I've not really paid much attention to the Presidents Cup previously. One key difference to the Ryder Cup is that it is over 4 days.
It may be handy (as a spectator) not having a long day on Thursday or Friday. However on the Friday foresomes some matches were over pretty quickly.
I suspect when buying tickets you won't know which of those 2 days are fourballs or foresomes.
They do play for a couple of extra points though. Recalling a bit back when Europe didn't have depth, the captains would often play the top guys a lot and leave out some 'lesser' players - whereas the US tended to be a bit more 'give everyone a game'.
Wonder if the extra matches encourage more game time for the lower ranked, which perhaps favours the US with their depth.

Disappointing end to The Presidents Cup from a neutral point of view, looked like it could get interesting at one point, but the US players just too strong.

The Dunhill Links with some not-so-coy groupings.

Rory McIlroy will play with billionaire Johann Rupert Thursday, PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan on Friday, and PIF leader Yasir Al-Rumayyan on Saturday.

Al-Rumayyan will play with Monahan and Billy Horschel on Thursday.

Wonder what the discussion will be?

It’s not Jay and Rory that are holding up the deal but I suspect they’ll be asked to go back to Tiger et al and get things moving before the opportunity for PIF investment in the PGAT goes elsewhere.

Noting that in 2023 the Dunhill had an owgr field rating of 150.

In 2024 the owgr rating is 218.

Which is 39 points higher than the same week pgat event (this doesn't happen often).

Hopefully the weather holds 😀

Too late, at least for the moment. Not sure he's too affected though as he can play on the PGA tour anyway

Too late for what? The players have the power, as do the financial backers. Johan Rupert is getting people talking to each other up in Scotland - we're already seeing that lead to positive words from the players about what golf needs to do to change, and to get back on a path that benefits the game in it's entirety.

The DPWT are at the mercy of the strategic agreement with the PGAT of course, but that shouldn't mean that a few people in Ponte Vedra decide the fate of the once great European Tour. The players, financial backers, and the fans across the world should be the ones deciding what direction the tours should take.
The opportunities on the table for the DPWT at the moment need to be grasped while they are there.

Think it is a very narrow view to think the DPWT and the players have any power. Now the deal has been done with the PGAT they will call the shots and pull the strings. It won't affect the lower echeleon of the DPWT who will simply play for their cards and make a living but it is only the top few that will have aspirations of having a great season on tour and the order of merit to get onto the PGA tour. I think as long at the DPWT is capable of putting on events in Europe (and their ones further afield) and they are well sponsored and make a degree of profitability they will be happy with their current lot

Where were all these financial backers when the ET was struggling to finance and sponser events meaning that the events disappeared from Europe to be spread all over the place - meaning the top players jumped across to the US Tour which gave them better stability, less travel , better financial rewards and the ability to challenge in the US majors

Portugal Masters for one, me and the missus went every year for 10 years and now seems to have disappeared

Just looked about and in 1990 there was 37 events

1 in the UAE

The 4 majors

32 events in Europe

10 events in UK and Ire not including majors

That also didn’t include things like

The world Matchplay
Dunhill Cup
Benson and Hedges Trophy

Some events stopped but they were replaced by others in Europe

It was a great tour

Thats nearly 40 years ago when European golf was at its peak in terms of the players and interest. Hardly relevant

Current schedule and not counting Majors or olympics there are still 18 European events https://www.europeantour.com/dpworld-tour/schedule/

Tricky to determine who's done the best with 3 courses on play, but -9 by Hillier at Carnoustie is impressive.
Whilst that may typically the hardest, the scores maybe suggest Kingsbarns was the most tricky today.

The Dunhill Links is great.
The Sanderson Farms is terrible.

If the PGAT really want to support the DPWT as part of its strategic Alliance then stop events after the Fed Ex and encourage your top players to support TOP DPWT events like the BMW at Wentworth and the Dunhill at St Andrews.
