We have kind of similar, one in Melbourne and 2 in NSW Aus that we can play for free, hell of a day trip though, I know a couple of guys who have played them and say they are great

Yes we have reciprocals in Australia and New Zealand too, I haven’t rung them up yet to ask about availability. Maybe during greens maintenance week ?

It seems our reciprocals coincide with where our past captains have holidayed! We have six in Australia, two in South Africa, two in Canada, one in Hong Kong and one in New Zealand!
(Incidentally, we only have eleven in the UK)

Nothing wrong with having a couple of those. Risk/reward for those that can take them on. Wouldn't have more than 2/3 though - just lazy design imo.
Plenty of courses have ditches/creeks running across fairways that provide the same challenge.
