LIV Golf

I’m also a bit surprised by the comments suggesting SA will be a good tourist destination. A bit of male privilege informing that view I think? Certainly can’t see my wife and I having a relaxing break there!

That’s a pretty universal view among my female friends - gay or straight.
They only want the very wealthy visiting anyway.

They are setting themselves up as a hyper luxury holiday destination. They don’t really want the average person going there.

A company I was approached by to work over there is building a resort that it is quite frankly a phenomenal place. But it’s for billionaires only.

Lionel Messi goes there on his holidays and loves it. The culture, the sights, the food, the hospitality, the people. He is a role model for the world, so it must be pretty great.
Having said that, I have been there for work, and thought it the dullest place on earth. Unless you are into fruit juices with your dinner, and strolling around shopping centres the size of Birmingham.
Apparently he loves America more,as he’s rumoured to be heading to Inter Miami.

This is an interesting view and one I’m quite curious on. It’s not stiring the pot when we say that there have been some very strong anti liv debates on this thread where members have taken the moral high ground , stood by the pga etc etc, rattled on about the history of the game , the Saudi human rights track record and generally thrown as much mud as poss at peoples who’s opinions differed from their own.

Forget Rory and Tiger, the fans who support the sport and it’s sponsors also have a voice and I for one sm curious on this.

Any anti liv supporters care to share how “ they “ feel about the announcement?
Very happy, no question. All I wanted was no cleave, and all the worlds best golfers playing against each other. This gives us that back. Splitting players into two camps was the worst thing ever. And the limited 48 player, ring fenced field was a serious downgrade on the levels of pro tours, qualifiers, etc, that ensure a pathway for the worlds best to make to the first division that is the PGAT. LIV threatened all of that, but its failure has restored what we had before. Corporate machinations above that are not of concern to me as a golf following fan.

Lionel Messi is, according to Google, a tourism ambassador for Saudi Arabia and is paid around £30m per annum for that role.

Imagine thinking that a multi-millionaire, out of anywhere in the world, would choose to visit Saudi. They wouldn’t.

Saudi Arabia is an absolute hole.

(may not embed, on phone)… Not sure if this has been posted/discussed? Mad if he really thinks LIV has a future, it’d appear to be dead in the water atm unless I’ve misunderstood things.

LIV failed - why else would PIF have bypassed Norman, not even telling him of the deal, and bought a share in another tour instead ? LIV wasnt delivering the goods despite the billions poured into it. They had to cut their losses and bet on a better horse.

FyCNTVyWwAAK8P-

Keith Pelley seems to think that LIV has a future. This was already posted on Page 624, but I have put it here for you. Have a look at the last paragraph, the bold, underlined part where he states that "LIV golf will retain similar administrative oversight of events on their tour".

After today I don't have a Scrooby doo what this all means.

I'm checking out of the thread till there is an announcement of the merger being completed and what it all entails.

Maybe we all should do that ?
You're right, but the speculation will continue across many media sites.
At the US Open, at Valdarama, etc....

Perhaps not so much speculation on here, as so many seem to know so much for certain already 😉😁😆😉

Yes, but that still applies this season, as LIV will continue in 2023.

But, what happens to LIV after that?

Is that Amaala or Red Sea Global?

NLU guys saying the view seems to be that LIV will finish out the 2023 events, but thats the end of it. Procedures, penalties, timing, finances of reintegration of those players into DP and PGAT to be worked on through this year, but that those players will not be seen on those tours in 2023.

Paid stooges of the PGAT. Those guys??

I'm not going to walk to close to the person in front of me, there are so many people back peddling I don't want to get run over.
McIlroy is the only one we have heard from yet apart from Monaghan, and a few tweets from LiV players who are clearly delighted to have a prospect of getting back on the PGAT, though I expect their will be either financial penalties on them, ir those who didnt go LIV will get some payout from the PIF investors as if they were sharholders. So a bit early to say that. We need to hear directly from more of them, and see how the detail pans out.

Hardly. We've heard from Monahan and Pelley, just about every journalist/pundit/podcaster out there, plus a handful of PGA Tour pros and few ex-players (e.g. Nicklaus); and then there are members of the public giving their opinions (like on here).

There are a lot who expressed clear anti-LIV/pro-PGAT views previously who are now presenting a distortion of their previous statements or rowing back completely, often without any acknowledgement (or even denial) of those previous contradictory comments while clutching to whatever tiny thread of consistency they can find - e.g. "I still hate LIV".
