LIV Golf

If the OWGR wants to be taken seriously as an accurate point of reference for the best players in the world then they need to include the players from the 2nd strongest tour in the world.

If the 2nd strongest tour in the world wants OWGR points then it needs to do whats needed to achieve that.

Just to clarify their mission

And “2nd strongest” very much a statement with little context

The DP is the second strongest and also the true global tour

Take out "transparent, credible, and accurate" and you're left with what they actually manage to achieve.

To be clear, they were failing in all three regards long before LIV came along. They have only managed to get less transparent, less credible and less accurate since.

And the old European Tour is a pale imitation of it's former self, withering by the year as all the best players now get flushed across the pond to play long drive & target golf on forgettable courses; and soon to get passed by the Asian Tour.

Passed by the Asian tour ? Nope not for me , only appears on the screen when co sanctioned

And all the best players on the Asian Tour also make the jump to ET first

And the OWGR rankings appear to be ok for the Majors

Guess they must be worthwhile if LIV are once again looking to find a way to use them

You’re quick to point out that LIV is reliant on financial support Phil, well the DPWT is reliant on the PGAT to keep it solvent. In terms of headline players, outside of a few (usually co-sanctioned) events, the DPWT doesn’t get close to the elite stars that feature in every LIV event, not sure on what basis you are claiming it’s the strongest global tour.

The ET plays 12 months of the year and goes all over the global Europe , Africa , Asia , Aus

It’s a true global tour

The PGAT provide around £20mil for their partnership - not exactly amounts that are keeping the tour “solvent” when its revenue is over £250mil plus

That the majors all feel the need to extend exemptions and invites to ensure the best players are in their fields demonstrates very clearly how not ok the owgr currently is.

A "transparent, credible, and accurate" ranking system is worthwhile. But largely due to undue PGA Tour influence, OWGR is none of those things. Excluding a dozen of the biggest tournaments in world golf from the rankings is just a symptom of the many issues that have long needed fixing.

“Biggest tournaments in World Golf”

What’s the metric being used when “biggest” is used

If tournaments are passing by with very little interest from many is it really the biggest

And if those tournaments do want to be included within the rankings then they conform to the same parameters as all the other tours have and then get the level of points reflective to their tournament

Been away from this for a couple of months, come back and its still groundhog day. 🤦

Phil will never convince Mel and Mel will never convince Phil #viciouscirclecontinues

The ET plays 11 months of the year, bizarrely having a month off in the middle of the European summer.
Since it isn't hosting it's own tournaments around the world, rather just sanctioning events from other tours, it isn't a true global tour.

The £20 million bail-out in 2023 literally kept the tour solvent, and that is only a very small fraction of the money the PGA Tour has piled into the ET.

Which month is it having off ?

So they play all over the world

And the £20mil helped cover £20mil losses - the tour wouldn’t disappear with a loss of £20mil

It’s a shame that more Europeans both players , fans and corporations haven’t supported the tour over the years

And it’s a shame that played chased the money

It’s the same when the best players from Asia look to move on , or SA or Aus - they all look to make the step up to the next big tour to open doors for them

And make more money, they go where the money is 👍🏻

Brooks Koepka is 282 in the world now I think I seen on Sky, he’s closer to me than Scottie 🤣🤣🤣
It’s a joke however you look at it, you can’t tell me anyone thinks he’s literally got 281 players better than him.

Even if or when they get points the level of points will still see them struggle to maintain high rankings

It’s reported that they will be lower than both the KFT and DP tour level of points and it’s hard to see them getting much more

It all comes back the Greg Norman and false promises
