LIV Golf

To be fair, you need to compare like with like. The Scottish open is more comparable. Tickets on the Thursday are £50, the rest of the week it's £60.

More than Liv but it's a fuller day so I'd say it's equivalent value.

@The Squirrel typed faster than me 😄

The flaw in my argument is that the concept of a child ticket being “free” will crash and burn once the youngest Squirrel kitten gets into the retail tent 🤣

That’s like comparing watching the World Cup final to Halifax Town.

One is going to be very much more expensive than the other.
Yeah I know, that’s why said “I know the scale of the two events isn’t really comparable”.

Don’t panic I’m not going to try and turn people into LIV fans

Quickly scrolled through this to get the main points, so I’ll need to listen to it in full later.

Decent interview from Rick.
Big takeaways.
LIV fans need not worry about players signing new contracts.
Trevor Immelman recognises the current OWGR situation is not acceptable.
More teams will be added to LIV
There will be opportunities for players from across the tours to compete together more frequently in the future - but I get the impression there won’t be a merger into one unified tour.
In 5 years O’Neill believes LIV Golf will have a dominant position in global golf.

Wonder what they envision the womens side of LIV golf to look like?

You’d assume (maybe incorrectly) that it would utilise the same venues and build outs as the mens tour, but are they planning on a female Majesticks team for example that will come under the same ownership of the existing teams.

Ladies golf is very much centric to the LPGA and has a small group of top players

If they create a LIV Ladies tour that would have a huge affect on other tours

They aren’t strong enough , LET already struggles badly

Luke Donald playing 1st 2 rounds of the BMW International Open with David Puig is not a coincidence.

Prob telling him to get himself into the PGAT to give himself a chance to get into the Ryder Cup team 😁

Wouldn’t expect him to be picking someone who hasn’t won a top competition and best result in a major is 39th

I think his stats are registering on Edoardo's spreadsheet 🤔

Big talent, could win this week.
Winning a DPWT event helped Ludwig get on the team with no experience at that point.

Crushers picked up Qualcomm as a sponsor this week and Majesticks announcing today a HSBC partnership.

Both teams have done pretty well commercially but where the Crushers are delivering on the course, The Majesticks are falling woefully short - one team that absolutely needs a shake up at the end of the season.

Why don’t they ever announce this monetary value of these partnerships

And why is it a partnership and not sponsorship ? Whats the difference

Well they haven’t addressed the issues raised by the OWGR last time (basically closed shop with no meritocratic path in, and concerns that these are individual scores within a team event) so OWGR can’t really come to any other conclusion than the same one they did previously. Doesn’t matter what anyone thinks of the merits of that decision at this point; it’s been made with reasons given. So why the new but identical application? Possibilities…

1) Done with the expectation of refusal for public posturing purposes?
2) Enough stuffed envelopes have now been dispensed and received to lubricate the process?
3) It’s the start of a negotiation process with amendments to LIV’s closed shop to be conceded?
4). Something else?

4) Reading the previous statements it was easy to conclude that owgr had no technical reason, and it came down to some subjective opinions of a couple of influential individuals - who are no longer in the mix...

3) hadn't it already been stated that 'contracted players' were no longer exempt from 'relegation'

Hunch is it will still be turned down though 😆

Think the mix of the team format and singles didn’t help with one player admitting that he played a little bit differently with a team score in mind

I think they may get some level of points if they do have a proper “qualifying”

But the level of points will be insignificant

I mean the closed shop argument is valid. On other tours if you play well in the right feeder tour (and so on down the pathway) then you get in. The end. Until LIV has some mechanism where you can force your way in then it’s really just an exhibition tour of 54 random golfers they have chosen to employ rather than the best. As that means that it is possible that much of the field could be teeing up having been selected due to their marketability or their modest wage demands rather than their golf performance, then it is very hard to argue that it should be allowed to dish out large numbers of world ranking points when the whole point of these, by definition, is that they should be meritocratic.
