I watched about half a Bryson YT video last night but got bored.
Golf Mates are more likeable, relatable and are probably doing more to grow the game than any of the professional organisations.
Overall, pro golf has managed to reinforce the nobby, elitist image of golf that the sport was supposedly trying to get rid of.

To be fair I'd say rick shiels has grown the game more than Liv has but then he's grown the game a lot. In my opinion ofc.

Not sure I agree - I think the analogy is valid.

IMG went to the PGAT with a proposal for a team based competition to be played in the off-season after the Fedex Cup. I believe the tour said they were not interested and preferred the wrap-around season of yet more 72 hole events. IMG didn't have the money to take this forward.

A combination of Greg Norman and others sold this to the PIF and they implemented the exact same IMG idea and called it LIV.

Thus LIV (Dyson) took the innovative idea to the PGAT (Hoover) and when it was rejected, took the idea to market and were very successful.

You can debate whether LIV is (or will be) successful but the analogy is valid.
That last bit is a contradiction.

You say "were very successful". Yet you then immediately go on to say there is still a debate whether LIV is, or will be successful.

That is the the whole point. If LIV is not considered to be successful, then the analogy was poor.

No.
Dyson put decades of blood, sweat, tears and innovation into creating something new. He didn't rely on an infinitely wealthy foreign power to throw money at him when he was making a loss and he has been successful enough to buy 40 John Rahms by himself.

This is an excellent take on the current state of golf.

If what is being reported is true, that Callaway have taken an equity stake in Jon Rahms team then that is HUGE news for Liv.

It would be the first global sports company to invest in a Liv Golf Franchise.

Been many rumours of Nike getting involved with Koepka's Smash team in the past.

Now that the PGAT have legitimised Liv it allows these companies to look at possible investment in Liv golf teams.

What is “growing the game”?
How are the LIVers doing it?

Bryson is making videos. How does that make non-golfers take up the game?

Does he give away his millions to inner city programs aimed at disadvantaged kids.

Is he providing equipment to those who can’t afford it?

Harold Varner III is doing that.

Im guessing they are eluding to taking their events round the world and not just round the USA.

A lot of LIV teams and individuals are setting up ventures to help bring kids and disadvantaged groups into the game.

But beyond that, the LIV fanbase is young, and growing - go to an event and see for yourself.

analogy
noun

  1. a comparison between one thing and another, typically for the purpose of explanation or clarification.
    • a correspondence or partial similarity.

    • a thing which is comparable to something else in significant respects.

You only have to look at his record with long drive where he as a pga star went and completed in their events. It really boosted their championships ratings etc.

Thanks. Here's one for you...

Weak analogy

Definition: Many arguments rely on an analogy between two or more objects, ideas, or situations. If the two things that are being compared aren’t really alike in the relevant respects, the analogy is a weak one, and the argument that relies on it commits the fallacy of weak analogy.

First PGAT sponsor jumps ship after Rahms announcement.

Wells Fargo announced today they will no longer sponsor The Wells Fargo Championship. after the 2024 event.

They have sponsored the event for over 20 years and is a signature event

Have we got an anomaly with the analogies?

In other tenuous LIV news, a horse co owned by Brooks Koepka and Graeme McDowell ran at Market Rasen on Wednesdsay -

and ONLY WENT AND FINISHED IN FIRST PLACE .

It's called Gimme Five, if any of you want to check its form to see if it's old, past it's best, running in exhibition races only, and ruining horse racing for everybody...😂...

I saw something on X aka Twitter recently where The Majesticks were doing something for kids!

Rahm could give every person in Spain a set of golf clubs, membership at a club and as many lessons as they could ever want. He’d still have hundreds of millions left.

Let’s see how much he really wants to grow the game!
