It also means they’re going up against some pretty big events on the PGAT, PGA European Tour.

Not sure if that (along with the rumoured player moves) are an indication that the PIF are raising the stakes against the PGAT and that the framework agreement is looking unlikely - but we’re a million miles away from Monaghan having the authority to can LIV right now.
The last thing that Jay M. wants to do is to can Liv Golf.

Rahm, Rory, Schauffele, Cantley moving to LIV looks to me like the PIF/PGAT deal could be on the finishing stretch, and part of a financial manoeuvre to get big paydays for them, and probably a few others, before full reintegration of the LIV golfers into the PGAT ecosystem. With or without an actual LIV tour continuing remains to be seen. Rather than penalise the returners, paying out for the 'loyalty' of those who stayed PGAT would balance the ship and keep everyone on board.

Impossible to know but every journalist is reporting the negotiations are going terribly badly.

Surely if The merger was going to happen there would be no need to pay Jon Rahm a 600 million signing on bonus as he would be a member of the new Co tour and Liv would have access to players, as the PGAT would have access to Brooks and Bryson.

Also crucially the framework agreement outlined that Liv COULDN'T approach any players while trying to find a definitive agreement.

So again this points more towards an agreement not being found and the PIF is doubling down like it said it would to bring more top players over to Liv.

Hope I'm wrong, a permanently fractured pro game is not a good thing.

#playbetter 😉

Good guy, wish him well 👍

Yep. Didn’t do enough at LIV to earn a new contract, and they obviously feel there are stronger players available that will be coming in - shame for Bernd, but he is a decent bloke who obviously cares for the game. Hope he’s successful back on the DPWT, he definitely adds some quality into the field.

In the most unsurprising news of the day The Majestiks confirm their roster for 2024 which is the same as last year.

Probably the team doing the best job off the course and the worst on it ?

They need to go to 1 Captain, 3 of them with protection from relegation is not a good look.

How so? He was runner-up in Hong Kong just 2 weeks ago.
Also, this isn't the pro golf thread.
Hence why I called it a shock.

Maybe playing in Hong Kong isn't ideal preparation? Was it a high quality field?

EDIT: I'll repost in the other thread then. I simply came to this thread first as I instinctively relate Smith to LIV before the general golf thread.

Yet another sign the framework agreement could be falling apart.

A number of PGAT members applied and were given permission to play in the Liv Qualification Event.
Reportedly among the people signed up for LIV “Q-school” include a Major Champ, multi-time Tour winner, a top 100 player, and some former decorated Ams.

Now it is being reported that the PGAT is threatening suspension if they take part.

Surely if we are all coming back together there is no need for the PIF to offer huge signing bonuses to come and play their tour or threaten PGAT players with suspensions ??
