We'd like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas from all at Golf Monthly. Thank you for sharing your 2025 with us!
got back into golf this year after a few years off sorting sprogs out and must say it is bloody wonderful again gareth. starting tp play to a 14 hc again but will be 12 by end of season:thup:
I'm overall pretty pleased, having only played 3 rounds in 2012, I really got back into Golf this year. Started the year with an inactive handicap of 26 and am now down to 24.1. I've won one of our summer medals and also was part of a team which won a team event as well. I'm playing some really good golf, and if I could just stop that one killer hole (the one where I shoot a 9!), then I've got a real opportunity to shoot something really special (by my standards).
Feel my season has went well, target was to get to 12 from 16, played well in most comps with the odd 0.1. Target was 11.6, reached 12.3 and added 0.1 on, to 12.4. Got a few medals left but with kids summer holidays starting beginning of July not played in comps lately, back from holiday Saturday and hope to play Saturday afternoon. Scared of going up 0.1 to 13 tho
Been a tough season for me, which was inevitable after dropping 6 shots last year.
My son is coming up on 9 months now, so getting some more time to practice and back playing on a weekly basis. My goal for the year is Cat 2 - so 12.4. currently up to 14.7 and all comps have ended with a 0.1.
The scores are gradually on the rise and I am finally striking the irons as well as last year, If I can get back to consistent driving then I fancy breaking 80 any time in the next few outings.
My short game is better than its ever been due to lots of visits to our par 3 course over the winter.
I feel like I am coming out of the trough and a purple patch is on its way.
I finished last season at 16.4 so felt I would only go back up as I felt 16 was punching above my level.
I've only had 1 cut all year but it was a whopping 2.4 so now went down to 14.3 so even tho I've gone back up another 2 x .1s I'll finish as 15 .
Which I find strange as not had a settled year with 6 diff putters been in and out the bag .
The golf at the moment is very good played in a seniors open at Hillside GC on Monday and finished 3rd with 35 points with 2 blobs, got an email from the club this morning to say my H/C has been cut .8 down to 12.1. Played yesterday and shot 81 gross 7 over playing tomorrow so will try and get another cut
Started the season at a new course and i started poorly, went from 5.5 to 5.9 was putting really badly. Grabbed an old md putter from the cupboard just to change things a bit and things picked up straight away. Cut to 5.2, then 5.1 then 4.7.
However, I am scoring much better than im playing. Driver is poor, 3w off the tee is flakey at best. Would love to get to 4.4 or less for the end of the season, but im currently lower than I expected so musnt grumble. Short game is pretty good now, always confident in getting up and down,,,,, doesn't mean I always do tho
Started off average then got worse. Found a bit of form 3 weeks ago with a 5 over so got cut down to 8.6. Had went for a lesson beforehand and my allignent had went a bit off line. Hadn't had a lesson in a year. Well worth the money as I assumed my alignment was fine and was tinkering with my swing plane. Oops
My first full season, down from 27 to 24 and won my first comp with a nett 65. So overall quite happy, I would like to get down to 20 but fear I may run out of time.
Great! Got a handicap again, joined a club and been able to get some decent practice in - especially on the short game! I have also finally broken the 80 barrier a couple of times, and my handicap is down to 11.8.
Well although I haven't played as much as I'd have liked it's been bloody good fun when I have played Enjoying competition rounds rather than fretting about them.
Got a new putter which has made that part of the game more enjoyable and rewarding. Downside is that I haven't played as many other courses as I would have liked. Good news is I'm playing The Nottinghamshire Open course this month, Theydon Bois next month and can't wait to see a fair few of you at West Hill . Those trips will round the season off nicely
Unfortunately my plans for next season could be disrupted as we are thinking of moving house soon, so cash will be tight. I had planned on getting a second car so I could make a few more trips and play in a few more meets but looks as though that's out the window. My course is pretty mediocre but if anyone fancies a jaunt to Suffolk it would be good to see you
Well this is my second season at my new club, the first season and start of this I went from 9.3 to 10.1, not even buffering. Was getting very frustrated, then just shot a low score and got my name on the boards and a massive cut to 8.1. Since I have managed to increase it with 2 rounds of 88 gross and the last round I buffered. I still don't get the CSS stuff, I read up about it, but even though I do maths for a living, I find their explanation gobbled gook and mathematically challenged.
I have started to get more comfortable with the pin positions on competition day, they are predictable, but when you start to understand the breaks and where to fire the ball in you can do something. I have also started to make my bag more specific to this course, the use of a powerful 5 wood has been beneficial off the tee. The 56 degree wedge has come back to the bag and is helping, I will replace the 60 degree vokey with a cleveland rtx as well.
My mindset has changed as well I am now able to play my next shot with out considering the last.
its been pants! Going backwards every round despite hitting it extremely well at the range, short game is in tatters.
Basically too many tweaks and changes over the previous 12 months. Going back to basics and concentrating on short game more. Must get below 20 which is very doable, ideally 18 so need to get 3.9 off the h/c. Trouble is I am working a lot of Sundays so comps are few and far between, may have to be the odd supp card here and there.
