I thought I'd start a thread, just for people to post how there season is going so far?

Are you on target to reach your seasons goals?

How's your handicap fairing?

How do you feel you're playing?

No real reason for the thread, other than for people to express how their seasons going

I'll get the ball rolling :D

I didn't hold much hope for this season. With all the changes I made over the winter I didn't expect any reductions this season at all, to that end, I didn't set myself any targets. Just wanted to play well and feel the winters changes take effect.

So far I've been pleasantly surprised.

I've had quite a few buffers, the obligatory 0.1 and been docked, so far by 1.8 shots from my starting handicap of 15.7 for the season. I won last weekends medal with a gross 77 and came second in the previous medal with a gross 79.

I'm happy how I'm playing at the minute. I just need to tighten a few things up, especially off the tee, but other than that things are going well

I'm not setting any targets. I didn't when I started the season, and can't see the point setting one now.

How about you guys?

injured, missed most of last 2 months, frustrated :(

on the plus side am hopefully fit again now and will be playing a match (last remaining knockout)

Already reached my season goal of 12 handicap so just gonna enjoy the ride now :D

Handicap cut from 18.8 to 12.1 so far this season so happy with that.

Feel like im playing well but still plenty more to come. Leading the nett averages at the club so hoping I can close out the season with a few more good scores and snaffle the best net average competition.

Looking ahead to next season by playing a few possible courses I may move to next season.

Started off like a rocket and have inevitably plateaued slightly. Went from 9.5 to 7.2 pretty quickly and have hung around there for a couple of month. The TaylorMade sticks helped a great deal in keeping my long game within the confines of the course.

Won an event on the Surrey Golf Tour with a gross level par which was probably my highlight.

Still in the club knockout and the team I'm captain of are top of the county league (a win on Sunday secures us the league).

Have acquired a lady friend since the start of the year though and so have had to balance golfing and personal stuff a little more evenly than I did in the first few months of 2013!

Don't think I'll be reaching the 5 just due to lack of qualifiers between now and October but would be more than pleased with 6!

Good thread. Started the season with high hopes of getting to 8 from the 10 handicap. Played in 28 qualifiers this year so far and been so inconsistent it has been scary. Really had a good April and a Mega bad May and June. So with 28 chances to reduce my handicap I have actually added 0.2 on to it. Overall I am really disappointed in my season so far as I know I can get down its just my stupid head that beats me up.

been a strange year as I have upped sticks from fair old sunny Ireland and moved to the big lights of England.

played quite a few courses here over the winter period and joined lee park about two months ago. ive only played one comp so far as they only have two a week and I cant make Tuesdays :( it took me a few weeks to get my handicap sorted out too.

I kind of feel this summer is slipping away "cuts wise". I still have two OOM games to play before the final round in sept and I can only play these at the weekends.

my game in general has been on a slight incline. changing my irons back to my old faithfull nike pro combos has been the kick start I needed. happy enough with my game although I can still be a little hooky and also a bit wild off the tee at times.

all in all, happy enough, I would just like to fit more comps in. last year in Ireland I was able to play in up to 4 a week. life is in the way atm !! :D / :(

Started with great hopes mate , hoped to get to 5 , went for lessons , shouldnt have had , knocked me back miles , not saying its all the pro's fault ,
Have been playing (badly) in a good few scratch cups so i can attribute 6 x 0.1's to that , game has been getting better over the last few weeks tho ,
Last two rounds have flattered to decieve Sunday i turned level par 22 pts after starting with a double bogey , shot 38 felt dissapointed as i was playing well
Tuesday i was -1 through 7 , 19 pts somehow managed to finish with 35 & another .1
Captains was a disaster 89 nett 81 , drove like a pro and chipped & putted like a 36 handicapper

Back to 7 is the revised target now

p.s won the irish craic classic forum meet cpl a weeks ago so that was a bonus..

Disapointed but Hopeful is the verdict i think

Wasn't convinced my h'cap was something I could play to at start of season. Reality was my chipping and pitching was that of a 28hcap so set about rectifying that with some real success. That had the effect of releasing any pressure on my long game, now knowing that I could get the ball up & down reasonably well.

So over 20 qualifiers, many of which were on away tracks set up tough for scratch events (get the excuses in early!! ;))......I have seen my h'cap go up by .2. Pretty happy with that in the whole.

Feel a real low one is gonna come anytime now.

Hard to say. handicap creeping up and up and closer to 12 than 9 but feel the ball striking is a million times better than it has been. Need to stop chucking in the killer hole and things will be fine and dandy. Overall I'm happy and trying to be patient knowing sooner or later it is going to come good and in a big way

Without playing much competitive golf my handicap has dropped from 5.0 to 4.4. My form hasn't been great but scores have been decent including two 72's (+1), one of which led to a competition win. I'm on won 2, lost 2 in the scratch league and mostly enjoying the game.
One of my main improvements has been in the putting department no doubt partly due to my new CF'd Ping (thanks GM & Ping).
We've had some good away days: FoA & Hawkstone the pick of them.

I'm well on track to reach my target handicap of 8 this year :)

Only problem is I started the season off 5 :(

Currently I have never been more proud of my swing and never had so much confidence in it.

I had one aim this year and that was to sort out my driving so I have been having lessons over the winter and at beginning of the year. So the last couple of weeks things have been improving had my first cut for ages and played to my h/c and better, best being a 77 gross.
I also vowed to start enjoying my golf more and take it for what it is, my hobby. Life is so much better when your not beating yourself up all the time.

Not as i'd hoped, started lessons with a local pro who has a very good rep and coaches the SGU up here. And though i have made some progress, its also meant my slight draw was turned into a slinging hook that i could not control.

Started the season on 7 had a load of buffers got cut 0.4 in the 1st round of county champs got to the final of the Handicap Club champs, but have since had a few buffers and a couple of 0.1s . i feel there is a good score somewhere, but keep having a bad 9 holes in every round either front ot back with hlf the round being level par.

Highlight is i've won a couple of my Moray League matches and one of those against the guy i lost last year when i should have won and dished out a 9&8 to him," which was nice";)

Ditto!

Swing feels good, putting as always is top of the list, and I've even started chipping and pitching like a human being! But for some reason my handicap is going in the wrong direction!

Started off on 6.3, got to 5.3 and have crept up to 5.5. Plenty of buffers. Really happy with my play at present...

Oh, and not to forget... Britain's Best Putter final at the Belfry in Sept.

Yep, all is good in Hobbiton.

Some pretty impressive season so far! Keep up the good work.
Personally had a torid time started off great in april with a bounce round PB, but once the glow of that faded its been downhill all the way with some very poor rounds in fact very close to a flagging of increase in annual review but went for a lesson on Tuesday and some bad old habits have reappeared hopefully things will change and can at least get back to season starting point of 10.5.

I had 2 goals this year, break 90 & get as low on my 28 (unofficial) handicap as I could. Using the app on my phone I've gone from 28 to 20.6 which I am so pleased with, got a great swing going at the moment, and broke 90 for the 3rd time on Saturday last week.

So I'm chuffed with this season!

I've played to my handicap or below it probably 3 times in the last two years......:( :o

very inconsistent ball striking bordering on embarrassing, chipping/pitching was worse than a 28 h/capper (no offense to high h/cappers).....you name the bad shots and I'm doing them....what on earth am I doing so wrong

didnt stop me trying all sorts 'remedies'

Had an epiphany on Monday night....quick affirmation research....went out Tuesday and hit shots that I could only remember hitting years ago- a few duffs as I'm trying eradicate 3 years of the wrong swing but fingers crossed it bodes well.....

.....famous last words....

2 words, horse manure. Im actually striking my irons pretty well but they can go anywhere, off the tee is ropey and chipping is non existant. Sad thing about this is I played pretty well last night untill I stuck a ball onto the busy A78 in Largs :o

Currently on a run of 9 (and counting) 0.1's without a cut.
