I did not want to hijack Granters thread on how much he won for coming second, but it made curious as to how other clubs decide how much money is won by players and how many places to pay.

At my club the number of prizes depends on the number of entrants in each division. The amount won is then a percentage of the amount collected. In medals, there is also an amount given to the lowest gross score on the day. 2's Club is an optional entry and this pot is divided equally by those that entered it and scored a 2.

Ours is fixed as we are pretty much guaranteed the same numbers every weekend (250-300), if there is less due to inclement weather, it still stands and the make up funds come from any surplus accrued so far that year.

It's all divisionalised at mine.
A couple of years back I won a comp - I was the only entrant in Div 1!
But I got the same as all the other Divisional winners.
Now it's done as a percentage of divisional takings.
So I'd have got £3.50 instead of £20 or whatever.
Sensible really......

Fragger, CVG and me run a 2's pot for us every time all 3 of us play - don't think there's an official one.

Ours is fixed each time, think its £20 for winning divison and £10 for 2nd in medals. All other comps the pot is divvied up. 2s pot paid out in cash each comp

In the standard medals it's:

£40 for 1st
£30 for 2nd
£20 for 3rd
£10 for 4th

These are all per division.

In the board competitions it's usually £80-£100 to the winner & prizes go down to 5th or 6th

No prize money in our place , prizes or vouchers .. usually pretty good tho , winners is normally around €100

2's club go in to shop vouchers . very handy ..

our principle is that about £50 is right for a win, and the number of places paid is then a function of the number of entries. We don't have huge numbers but we don't have divisions either.
board comps slightly higher
2's pay a fixed £6
entry fee is £4

basically our approach is that it's not a money game!

picking up on bladeplayer's comment - all our's are credited direct to club card (next day :)) for use in bar, food or pro-shop. I presumed when reading earlier posts that they were referencing vouchers of some sort.

2's money goes straight to the club gold card for the bar/food. Divided equally amongst the players, unless a hole in one occurs and then they get the while pot .... although we did have a medal once where we had 2 hole in ones and they had to divide the pot between them :)

Prizes are presented in pro shop vouchers, but you can get them put onto your gold card too. Stableford and board comps are generally one division, medals are spilt into 2. Prizes are 1st 2nd 3rd for divisions, with an overall lowest gross too. Board/staleford comps can go to 4 or 5th if the entry means they get a reasonable amount. Money is divided as a percentage, with a small amount withheld from the prize pot for the actual medals and/or engraving costs. Comps committee generally have a small amount held in pot to cover extra comps, or low turnout comps, to ensure that prizes are stupid amounts.

All ours are in vouchers which you can spend in the pro shop or add to your bar card.

From (failing) memory:

Entry: £4 or £5
Overall winner £50
Divisional:
1st - 4th £40/£30/£20/£10
Best gross in medal £30

Midweek medal:
Best nett and best gross both £30

We have various competitions at my club. The winter leagues are divided up in to 2 leagues. They run 2 leagues for 10 weeks before christmas and then a new set of leagues 10 weeks after christmas. Top 3 in both leagues get the prizes which is paid in vouchers for the pro shop. 1st place = £150, 2nd place = £100 and 3rd place £50.

During the summer it's usually qualifying or non qualifying rounds on the day. Dependant on turn our will effect the prize money. It's £4 to enter which £1 of that goes to the 2's challenge. Same on a Tuesday evening for 9 holes, but depends on the competition, if its capture the flag then winner takes all.

It's not a bad format which seems to work, just a shame about turn out sometimes :(

Saying that I won around £500 in vouchers last year so not too shabby!

We pay £2 for each compy, £1 goes to sweep, £1 to magic 2's. this is split into 3 divisions. 0-12, 13-20 and 21-28. Number of places and payout depends on entries. All winnings go into an account held on the pro's computer and have to be spent in the shop. Magic 2 rollover can be enormous for div 2&3 as we only have 3 par 3's all quite tough.

I get annoyed that some people don't pay into sweep though as they have issue that it has to be spent in pro shop. Pro puts in 10% on top of the prize fund, I think it's rather petty that people take that stance.

It appears that most clubs have a fixed prize pot from reading the above responses. I assume that over a year, they at least break even as I am sure some comps the entry fees will not cover the prize pot, others there is a surplus.
Although ours has always been dependant on the number of entries, it used to be done by the comps chairman who would divide the money up how he thought was best. Since we got a new comps chairman a couple of years ago who sked me to help, I wrote an excel macro that has automated the whole process and stopped the "Oh, Fred won more than me because he is friends with ...." type comments.
All our prize money is paid through the member's account in the pro shop.

Singles. 3 divisions. 1st, 2nd, 3rd in each division. The amount is dependant on how many entries. Pairs/teams often pay down to 5th/6th, again dependant on how many entries.

The last monthly stableford was £6, £2 entry, £2 sweep, and £2 for two's. (Sweep and two's optional) No divisions, just top 6 won something. Pot is divided out, but winnings go in pro shop credit, and sweep goes behind the bar. First place was worth about £170, and 6th place got £25.

All our money goes onto a card for use in the Pro Shop. Not sure if there is a possible alternative. I came 2nd in the Medal last month and won £15.

Divisionalised for medals and stablefords with 1st 2nd and 3rd taken from entry fees. Honours board events tend to be just top 3. The pro organises a separate 2 ball sweep fore those wishing to partake

2's? I'm assuming if someone gets a 2 anywhere on the course they get the pot? That simple?
Two's pot is divided up. We have five par 3's so usually have at least 10-20 two's, worth about £10 per two on average. Managed one last stableford so at least covered my entrance fees. We also have money put into a hole in one pot. Went about two years without one, and the pot got to £400 !! Just after it was won, we had another hole in one, and the pot was about £10.:ooo:

Richard, How does the committee decide how much to put in the hole in one pot? Is it a percentage or ??
Good question Anthony. I am not sure, but assume it must is a percentage. It may be run by the Pro, as you get a credit in the Pro shop if you get a two, and pretty sure it is the same for the hole in one pot. Competition winnings go on your account in the Pro shop as well. Sweep goes behind the bar, so all in house. Suits me fine.
