How good are the different elements of your game?

I supose Driving & down to and including 8 iron i could be mistaken for a 6 handicapper . 150 yards & in prob a 13/14 handicapper level , putting is very solid probably better than my handicap suggests

Best part of the game , the bit between the ears, play with a smile on my face & i dont let it get to me , a quick aaagh after a bad shot then get on with it , & when the clubs go in the car the round is put to bed , good & bad rounds treated equaly ,

Out of interest how did the analysis of Tappers and Paul's game shake down

Think that would be very unprofessional of me... anyway, here goes.

Paul, I would say is probably about the right handicap throughout his game - he nurdles it around, rarely gets into trouble and has been annoyingly solid this year - actually, on reflection, I'd say his short game and chipping are probably below 5-handicap status and his long game just a shade over, but not by much.

Tappers on the other hand has the long game of a tour pro at least in his own mind and can certainly get it out there, though not always in the right direction. I've lost count of (or should that be lost interest in) the number of times he comes back from an instruction shoot claiming such and such a tour pro couldn't understand why he was off 5 the way he swings it. They obviously didn't move up closer to the green, for it is in the chipping department that Tappers perhaps finds himself a little lacking at times, coupled with a mental state that borders on the aggressively fragile from time to time.

Driving about 24 handicap unless it is on a links course when about 10. No trees means tension free swing.
Irons about 8, strongest part of my game, steep swing, big divots, but generally get the ball first.
Short game chipping, sand play and putting about 10.
Pitching between 70 and 30 yards, 28 handicap. If I don't shank it I am pleased. Take the putter as much as possible in the summer.

At my best on a links course, as my driving is so much better, and I can putt from well off the green. Also like playing in the wind, as I have a low ball flight.

My mate who I grew up with is a head Pro now. He summed up my game many many years ago. He said if he could hit the ball like me then he would have tried to go on tour as his course management, wedge play and putting is as good as anything you see on sky sports. But on the other hand he says he knows 18 handicappers with better short games than me. I have never been able to chip as well as my handicap says I should.

Driver 3
Irons +
50 - 100 yards 5
Chipping 18
Putting 5
Course management 12

Hopefully though a quick lesson from Bobski when my shoulder is better will sort things out......:fore:

Must admit every single round each aspect of my game varies but generally my putting is always solid.

Driver 6
Irons + 8
50 - 100 yards 15 :(
Chipping 10
Putting 5
Course management 25 :(

Course management is terrible and is basically through lack of concentration, one bad hole and my head goes, something i definitley need to improve on next year if i want to go lower

28 driving/tee shots
28 long irons/hybrids
28 short irons
28 chipping
28 putting

thats why I am off 27.7 (was down to 27 woohooo but 3 .1's back)

great eh :)

Woods 14
Irons: 8
wedges 12
chipping 6 to 12 depending on the day
putting 10
Bunkers 28

If I could stay out of the sandpits there's a chance I could hit single figures.

Driving - 7
Irons - 8
Wedges - 9
Chipping - 10
Putting - 36!!!!!
Putting has always been the biggest problem in my game. Earlier in the year I had 48 putts on a round of 88.

Driving - 14hc
Irons - 5hc
Wedges - 5hc
Chipping - 7hc
Putting - 6hc

Only thing stopping me getting lower is my driving, so inconsistant it makes me cry. I waste too many shots recovering from the trees.

Driving - 10 (quite long but quite wild with it)
Hybrid - 4
Irons - 4
Wedges - 8
Chipping - 28
Putting - 28

Basically, if I'm not striping my driver and/or hitting a high % of greens with my irons I'm struggling.

Come the short game revolution and some serious hard work, the numbers I posted earlier wil be changing. If I can find a short game then it takes the pressure off every other facet. It seems from some of the other comments that what we really need is a collective GM forum short game lesson somewhere
