How do you play a 218 yds Par 3?

At that kind of distance, it is going to take a good shot to get there. So the first thing I'd do is take any pressure off yourself as far as par goes.

Hit the club that'll get you there or thereabouts, chip on and two putts - easy bogey and move on. As you get more accurate and/or your short game improves, you'll make more pars.

We've got a 237 yard par 3 and it's basically a par 4 for most of the field. If you get a 3 there, you've done well and move on.

I think I'll follow Bob's advice and try a 5w if I have a chance. Or buy one but I was saving for a v-easy...

If you want one, I bought a new one today. Long story. I now have two spares. :o

wouldnt be far off driver for myself either, probs might get there with my 4 hybrid/3iron (when its in the bag) would need a good bounce and roll though :)

Our 1st and 17th play 229 and 218(I think) so we get a lot of practice. I can reach both with my 3 hybrid unless the winds blowing or the ground is soft when I hit 3W. I haven't yet resorted to driver but I'm sure I will at some point.

Since you probably get a shot there, just lay up and play it as a par 4.

If you get a shot then play it as a drivable par 4 or probably a good 4/5 iron or a hybrid if the wind is against.

The most challenging par 3s are the 220-240 range ones I find.

I've hit your 17th (and 3 putted) and have never played the 1st well. My plan would be to get close or on the front with a 3 wood....yet I always seem to play a shot from the Hackers school of disaster golf as my opening effort.

See if you can borrow a 5 or 7 wood, should be able to land them softly and you get a shot so a 4 should be no worries
Bob accused me of being an old F**t the other day because I have a 7 wood!!!! :)
A sudden change of heart?? :) ;)
I would probably lay up with my driver anyway. :o
