Whenever one is between clubs for a shot and chooses the longer club to be on the safe side, it guarantees that the resultant shot will be struck perfectly with the result that the ball sails way past the target.

If, when a 'pick and place' local rule is in place, a ball placed back on the fairway subsequently rolls off the little grass 'tee' you have placed it on then the player may gently nudge the ball back onto that 'tee' with no penalty.
