Just getting my bag ready for a game tomorrow, treated my clubs to a nice dip in soapy water and gave my grips a good clean (first in along while!) any how pulled my glove out and noticed it was black and alittle too smooth, no tackyness to it really. So got me wondering how long people's gloves last, this one is a couple of months old at the most and also is there a good way of cleaning them or making them last abit longer? My glove was a footjoy sci flex by the way! The one before it got ruined after a rain soddened round it stretched all the fingers when I was trying to get it off!!

If you are using a premium glove (leather) best way to increase longevity and performance is to keep it dry,and store it in its original packaging between rounds.Even new gloves will go crusty after a soaking.

ok so this is going to sound anal but I rotate 3 gloves and use a different glove in rain conditions. I have also found that it is possible to wash older gloves with an old toothbrush and some soapy water. it squeezes out a few extra rounds. if a little shiny get a smooth-ish bit of sandpaper and rub the shiny parts of the glove. It may not be ideal but i've found again it gets a few extra rounds out of the glove.
Number 1 glove for me is the footjoy pure touch and this years sciflex as they have no pores on the palm - quality.

Probably no surprise but I have a lot of different Sci Flex in various colours as I do like my glove to co-ordiante. Just the way I am. Onthe plus side by rotating them it also means they last a lot longer. For comps I use a softer FJ Cabreta Sof or an R9/R11

Why change glove for a comp Homer?

Surely that's going to change the feel of the club/shot isn't it..?

Classic case of needing to re-read a post before hitting the submit button.....:thup:

Nudge nudge Wink Wink

Say no more!

My pure mind wouldn't even have the merest of inklings the my post could be misconstrued in such a puerile and childish way.

;) :p

I know... schoolboy error :o

It does but after a few shots on the practice ground it isn't an issue. The problem was I was going through too many cabretta ones in the palm with grip issues. The Sci Flex are more resiliant and so use them for the more regular bounce games and the softer ones for when it matters

i use the r9 ones still, picked up 6 for 40 quid at one of the tents at the euro pro event at galgorm this summer, still a couple left in the cupboard. very comfortable, and half the price of the r11 :)

I use the Footjoy Sofjoy or Mizuno cabretta leather gloves. I can't stand playing with a glove that is not in good condition. I have 2 or 3 new gloves in my bag at all times to make sure that this doesn't happen. I have pretty big hands but opt for a Medium-Large so that the glove is fairly snug on my hand. I think this gives me a better feel but does mean the gloves stretch and don't last as long.

I also wear out the leather on the thumb where it touches the grip the fastest. Pretty unusual place I think as my mates all weatr theirs out at the ball of their thumb first

I use the large with are a fraction too small as I like them tight but the next size is too big, I can tell they've stretched as the Velcro is now nearly all the way over!! Think it's time for some new ones! Strangely I also got on with the cadet large size.

Are any of you seriously saying that you can detect the difference in your game based on the glove you wear?

If so, I am amazed. I buy the first one I try on from any one of the main manufacturers that fits. In all my year's of playing, I have never given a moment's thought to glove preference as it makes no difference at all, whatever the colour, material or brand. At least not to me...

No I just liked the sci flex, had some Nike ones once that we're really uncomfortable to wear. I did find I played better in new ones than older worn out gloves.

So do I. I change them when they look a bit tired. Not sure how many rounds this is though. 10 ish at a guess?
