Well, the race might have been dominated by one driver for most of it, but it was such a better watch when it was at least dominated by a different driver than normal.

Great result for Sainz. Let's hope Ferrari aren't ditching the wrong driver.

I was going to comment but put the brakes on as I realised it might be a spoiler.
I make a point of avoiding this thread until I've seen the race. Anyone who doesn't is asking for trouble and deserves little sympathy.

As for the race (having now seen it)...
Alonso seems to have returned to his old disingenuous ways, which is a shame because I've been warming to him the last couple of years. To claim that his brake test on Russell was a slight misjudgment is difficult to accept. He's absolutely world class, one of the greatest drivers in history. He admits that he was trying to slightly change his entry & exit, but getting it as wrong as he did isn't the mark of someone with as much talent as him. Had to be deliberate.

On fairness, when I posted I first wondered would many not have swwn the race yet.

But, then I quickly reasoned, if you hadn't seen the race and didn't want any spoilers, you tend to stay off news websites or even Facebook just in case you see something. So, you definitely wouldn't go on to a forum thread titled F1 2024

Yes I normally have the news on Sunday mornings but that was not going to happen for the same reason.

Funnily enough though I was wide awake at 4.30 and had it on record so watched it in the early hours. I did fall asleep towards the end but the commentators bursting out about Russell woke me up so it was watch the end and back to bed.

It's still rumour and conjecture, he has 1 more year to go. Likely they would not let him join a team for next season. Even in my job I have a 1 year no competition clause in it.

I think there must be more going on behind the scenes he is not happy with.

Depends on why he is leaving. I’m sure he has had advice from very good lawyers.

Can’t wait for him to join Lewis at Ferrari!

Amazing win.

Very impressed that, once he got to the front after a bit of good fortune, Max couldn't catch him.

I'll look forward to that episode in Drive to Survive

Great to see someone else winning for a change.
But I fear this was an outlier.
Apart from the lucky timing of the safety car, the fact that Lando could drive away from Max, and Hamilton was able to keep up with Perez, suggests to me that there was something wrong with the Red Bull setup at Miami. Very likely normal service will be resumed at the next race.

The most boring race in the history of F1 - Monaco is a waste of time for everyone.
Thankfully the Indy 500 takes place the same weekend - more excitement in the singing of the anthem than two hours round Monte Carlo.
Even Max Verstappen just said on camera it was a boring race for everyone involved.

A truly boring race. The commentators ran out of words. I really don’t understand why it’s still on the calendar, there has to be some major money influencing the continuation of the sham.

Agree, awful. Always is. But, at least Verstappen didn't win.

Also rubbish Indy Cars can't run in rain :(

They will run in the rain on the street and road courses. But ovals would be so dangerous. Even the slowest qualifying speed was over 230mph this year. It is No.1 on my bucket list to go to this event one day.

And unlike F1, there are probably 10-15 drives with a realistic chance of winning. Alex Palou is the overall champion, Scott Dixon the wily veteran, Jozef Newgarden the cheat, sorry oval expert. Then you chuck in pole sitter Scott McLaughlin in the Thirsty Threes, the McLaren contingent and nutters like Grosjean and Wild Thing Takumo Sato. Real racing!

I watched it for first time about 5 or 6 years ago, and was awesome.

To be fair, the racing is generally boring until the last few laps. Bit like watching a marathon, where most of it us about trying to stay in leading group.

But, the potential for pretty extreme accidents is pretty high. Watching 3 or 4 cars side by side at well over 200mph is pretty awesome
