Driving distances and handicap- be honest now!

That par4 you are driving is only 190yds? :p

285yds! To be perfectly honest its an elevated tee.

On another hole, the long 235 yd par 3 14th is slightly uphill and 180 degrees orientation to the 12th , and I just about make that home with a driver.

This demonstrates that most/all of the yardages on this thread are meaningless out of context.

No official handicap, but otherwise

20 / 270 avg (longest 310, it was a nice summers day, no wind, hot and I creamed it :) does happen occasionally)

245 to carry the ditch and it's game on so I'm probably happy that I can carry 255.

255 to carry the ditch and I'm laying up with a 4-wood, but that may be on the basis that I know I can keep it short of the ditch.

Funny old game.

Just checked carry over a fairway bunker I would expect to carry - about 230yds to just clear it - so I'm guessing maybe 235yds my expected carry with a driver.

Handicap 8

Summer 255
Winter 230

I know my summer yardage as I had a track man session last summer so winter I'm working on the assumption I'll lose about 25 yards on average.

Ive been on many forum meets and i cant remember anyone ive played with averaging 270.
Even Swinger who hit one 300+ had a lot lower average due to a few mis-timed drives.
Also if i came across a 20 handicapper that was spanking 270 average drives,i could guarantee i would beat him because the rest of his would be below average.
I dont think a lot of people understand an average, just longest.
No doubt there are some big hitters out there, not disputing that at all,but surely if they are above
a 20 handicap theres other areas of their games that need working on.
