Driving distances and handicap- be honest now!

I'm gonna take a punt at...

220 in winter
250 in summer

H'cap 10

Need to fire the laptop up to google earth it...watch this space

16 Handicap. Current winter average I would estimate around 235.

We have several fairway bunkers that are 250 to carry off the whites, in summer I aim at them and expect to get over......doesn't always turn out like that of course :o

Ive been on many forum meets and i cant remember anyone ive played with averaging 270.
Even Swinger who hit one 300+ had a lot lower average due to a few mis-timed drives.
Also if i came across a 20 handicapper that was spanking 270 average drives,i could guarantee i would beat him because the rest of his would be below average.
I dont think a lot of people understand an average, just longest.
No doubt there are some big hitters out there, not disputing that at all,but surely if they are above
a 20 handicap theres other areas of their games that need working on.

Tony, it is the average well hit drive, not including duffs. If it was the average of all drives I would struggle to get over 150 yards.:(

Got to agree. In my 7-8 years of playing I have only played with 2-3 what I would call big hitters. The 2 best players I have played with (+1 and 0) were not one of these. A +1 guy I played with is 6'5" and throws everything at it but he was sooooo wayward we spent most of our time looking for his brand new proV1s. Great to watch close up though. I have just measured (conservatively)one of his drives on GE and it went just over 300yards but 50% of the time he was in the cabbage. As I have said I hot it 220yards on a good day but I throw at least 1 drive that is well below 200yards in there so my average must we a lot lower. Luckily my place is very tight (6600yards) so being on the fairway is what counts.

are these big hitters big lads?

they aren't really related (the really is because tall players can create a larger arc more easily - but then have to control it!)

the 2 biggest hitters at the club are a pretty small guy and a 6'4" 19 year old - they hit it long because they hit it clean and have great technique.

I know a few guys that hit it 270-280 consistently, 1 guy in fact would be 300 avg. They would all be cat 1 or low cat2. 7hcap or lower.
TBH the 3 longest hitters in my club are between 5'7" and 5'11" and not massive but they are very athletic builds.

Seen a few random guys hitting similar distances but usually they are sprayers or using wrong driver that goes miles one swing and nowhere the next. 1 guy was playing a soft regular G15 and then got fitted for Stiff. He went from being 225-295 to being average 265-270 but consistent.

Some unreal distances in relation to handicap on here imo :)

I get what I consider to be great distance with my driver and rescues. But when it comes to irons I'm very short which is why I had to add in the 27* rescue.

Played on Saturday and while I was 40yds past a guy with my driver when we were on par 3's he was hitting at least 2 clubs less than me every time.
