I used to have to wear ridiculous long socks with shorts when we went anywhere ‘tropical’ whilst in the Navy. The worse rig ever, but at least it was compulsory. l did not mind looking like a ’Burk’ for Queen and Country. But I’d be buggered if I would then have to go and wear the same get up on a golf course because some ‘Rupert’ on the commitee deemed it necessary.
