Delusion

I'm convinced I can get lower if I could keep it in play more off the tee.

Don't know if that's delusional or not. I had one round about a month ago where I had my best driving round ever, and it made scoring so much easier it was like another game.

Been rubbish ever since :(

So how come Westwood is a dodgy putter? He must have tried out the head shrinkers, and it clearly hasnt worked, unless he is really really bad when left on his own.

If they were all equally good at all parts of the game it would be boring. Westwood is still a good putter, he just isn't as good as others like Spieth, that's just the way it is.

D4S, Do you practise your short-game ? Don't worry about convention......find something that works and try and stick to it.

I've been having awful short game issues for several years now and I'm convinced that I will sort it out sooner rather than later. If I had a good short game I reckon I could get down to about 2 or 3. Once step forwards followed by two backwards.

Anyone else on here feel they are deluded about what they could achieve golf wise?

My short game was poor. But I've just been fitted for some new titleist wedges and it has improved a lot since. So I'm very pleased about that.

So make sure your clubs are fit for you and then it will inspire confidence in you :)

Yeah keep believing I will get much lower like 4 or 5, but with my swing, lack of practise and course management, I suppose I will (cough cough) never. But hey I'm living the dream.

I used to quite a lot. My short game used to be decent which is what got me down to about 6 then my ball striking and consistency improved which got me down to 4 with no short game. I think Garry made a good point earlier about bad technique leading to head issues, I think that is where I am now. The last lesson I had highlighted how much on the inside I was taking the club back when chipping and now working on sorting that out which is helping

Good to hear ! I struggle with the whole 'clubhead outside your hands' on my chipping and pitching as I feel totally disconnected with my turn. These last 2 weeks I've started to feel like im taking the club away a bit more on the inside and just turning through and my strike has improved no end......go figure.

This is my basic swing thought at the moment that has got rid of my fat contacts. I was dumping all the angles out. Now I just turn back, hinge and turn through. this is for full shots and pitches I want to hit down on.

The problem with the shallow swingers (or round the body swingers) for chipping and pitching is when it comes to tight lies. Nothing scares them more. They see no room under the ball and try to help it up. Timing is crucial here and the margins are tiny.

My brother has this affliction. He's just bought a tank chipper which will help him no end.

Ain't that the truth! Give me a decent lie with plenty of grass and I'm generally OK but I really struggle of bare lies

D4S , try hitting it like you would a bunker shot but not as extreme.

Club face a tad open, ball slightly forward and let the club bottom out an inch behind the ball. Keep the face from turning over. Swing slightly out to in.

The drier the ground the easier this gets.

This is a great description of it here. Probably the best I've seem on the internet.
