I've been having awful short game issues for several years now and I'm convinced that I will sort it out sooner rather than later. If I had a good short game I reckon I could get down to about 2 or 3. Once step forwards followed by two backwards.

Anyone else on here feel they are deluded about what they could achieve golf wise?

I would say as soon as you sort out one part of your game its usually to the detriment of one of the other bits that were strong before.

If you drove well, hit irons well and chipped and putted well, you would be on tour leading the WR;)

Yeah, everytime just before I tee-off!

Having played with you a number of times I would say it is possible for you, however as your short game in your words is awful and has been for years I would suggest it needs a radicle change.
Also maybe you just have not got the skill to accomplish such a change.

My driving is nowhere near as good as yours and I have had problems on that side for years however confidence has risen lately as it was a mental block not physical.

I believe 5 is where I can get to[certainly not delusional but a challenge.

I know exactly what you are saying, but what you have said endorses summat I have never been able to understand. To drive a ball well, really well there is a certain amount of timing and muscle involved. For me there is a lot more that can go wrong with a full swing with woods and irons.
for a short game, chipping and pitching, it was explained to me in my first lessons, it is all about touch and feel. The closer you get to the pin the more practice swings you have. For me nine times outa ten it is an easy thing to comprehend. And for a 21 hcapper. Have quite a good short game.
Advice, you know your short game is not up to standard. Let someone else have a look at it to help sort it out.

Not delusional, but almost saddened by the swift onset of old age. From being very long off the tee I now find that I'm towards the back of the pack. Chipping to within one putt distance most times is now chipping close once or twice a round. At least I can still putt.

10 years ago I still thought I could get to scratch, but rarely practiced. Now that is delusional.

Yip, aiming for scratch but every so often I realise just what that will take. Sure I can break par but can I find the consistency to avoid too many 0.1s in the wrong direction?

I'm in a similar spot with my putting, got down to 3.9 with what can only be described as an awful putting game. Literally have to give myself a mini therapy session before every 4 footer 😂

Yep, i have seen plenty of guys with a rubbish short game, and i dont think it can be fixed. Its a head thing. With all the cash at his disposal, and all the time, can Westwood putt?

I think I ought to be able to get to 9 at least, but I am constantly let down by consistency, I tend to have a lot of pars and the odd birdie most rounds but I let myself down by throwing in too many double bogies or worse. Sadly I started playing regular golf too late in life.

Absolutely delusional I am, just had a month of some of the best Golf I've ever played, single figures here I come, nope, need to do it with card in hand. Bounce games don't count,

I'm hoping to join a club later this year and hopefully get back to low single figures again with some decent practice and game time

I know two guys with brutal short games and its technical leading to a head thing. both are far too shallow. They swing the club around themselves and either blade the life out of it or catch it fat. painful to watch.
