I thought royal blackheath was the oldest club in England, not necessarily course

Either way it's not worth a special trip, nice welcome, lovely clubhouse....average parkland course.

I think you will find that RND only claim to be the oldest links course in England still using its original layout.

I have in my mind a list of courses that I believe must be played before I die, some due to their historical connections and others because there is something special or unique about them. Some of these I have played, some still to be ticked off.

In no particular order

1) The Old course, St Andrews
2) Sunningdale
3) North Berwick
4) St Enodoc
5) Royal North Devon
6) Prestwick
7) Musselburgh
8) Swinley Forest
9) Pebble Beach (USA)
10) Cape Kidnappers (New Zealand)
11) Royal Melbourne (Australia)

Please feel free to add any others you think should be on your lists

PS....I have deliberately left off those that ain't never going to happen like Augusta etc.

The old course, Muirfield, Turnbeey and pebble Beach for me.

Played North Bewick a few times and it has to be my favourite course ive played so far.

There does appear to be some substance to it, but I'd be suspicious that the golf played may have been a bit more informal than they would like to admit. I haven't seen any proof that it's on the same patch of land either. They do seem fairly confident about claiming it though..

At last someone suggests Bandon Dunes! 5 stunning courses in the middle of nowhere which is why they will never get the Tour event they deserve

I have no courses on my list to play before I die.
I do appreciate playing nice courses,but when you get to the top courses you
can be talking hundreds of pounds,and I cant afford them.
As long as the course is in good nick,the weathers nice,and the companys good im a
happy golfer.
I am looking forward to playing Woodhall spa next year,i hope the weathers better than last time.

I'm rather of this mindset. 'Top' courses I might fancy playing inevitably have green fees of £75+ and I just can't justify paying that for a round of golf. So I'll accept any chance I get to play a top course for free or significantly reduced green fee if and when they come along. I'm not a 'trophy' collector of courses and can't be bothered with those who gas on about having played this that or the other course and how fab it was.

I would however be really interested to know forumers Top 20 UK courses for <£50 a summer round.
